We should not blame the VA State Troopers (IE: "VA TAX REVENUE GENERATORS"), the fault lays with POLITICIANS whom depend on the fees, and fines to fund some of their LEO projects.
The speed limits are set lower than necessary for a reason. That reason is people with certain tendencies will go FASTER than the speed limit allows.
When a State Trooper in the 7-11 was saying the "...speed limit is for safety..." And I spoke plainly and said "That's not true, for if it were true? There would be radio controlled signals from speed limit signs that attach to an electronic governor to the gas pedal of EVERY car imported into the U.S., and they would put NEVER import, make, or allow, ANY vehicle capable of triple digit speeds!"
He had no answer. The Department of Transportation, and the Division of Motor Vehicles use the system AGAINST itself to created situations it KNOWS to be UNACCEPTABLE! It lives by the disobedience of those it licenses.
And to counter further? Remember when Tim Kaine signed off on fees/fines higher for VA RESIDENTS who were caught under the confines of the "Reckless" statutes, but passed on trying that without out of state drivers? Yeah, GA came back for a special session, and took that option OFF the table because it pissed EVERYONE off! Not just speeders!
Government rules because the citizens are quiet. Do you think the NYPD could, or even WOULD, do a damned thing if everyone 21 year old male, and female walked around OPEN CARRYING A PISTOL in civil disobedience? No, they wouldn't, the people would have spoken, they wouldn't have the resources to handle it, and more to the point, LEO's are people too, they have families, and not all are "bullies with badges". That human side would let them realize, "we're out voted here".
There's the point. Government rules because we LET THEM! If we could stop bickering amongst ourselves long enough to realize that? The guv'mint would have to do the right thing, remove some of these ridiculous regulations, and laws, and let us just LIVE OUR DAMNED LIVES IN PEACE...ALONE...WITHOUT FEAR!

Yeah good drama and all but only part of the story. The point is the plaintiff lost in district court. Miserably actually. He did not get a jury as demanded and recieved a summary decision which found the officers within reason.CCFan wrote:some interesting reading for you all, pertaining to the recent incident in Roanoke...
He also lost the appeal in circuit court.

Re: question about CC and traffic stops
Ive carried concealed with a permit for over 25 years, Ive had more than a few run ins with the police. For the most part I'd have say they know what they are doing and are professional, even if some of them stretch the truth in court lol. From my experience and while there is NO law stating you have to tell them you are carrying, I think it is in your best interest to do so, keep your hands open and clear, tell them upfront you are legally carrying and where it is, protect your self, remember you are following the law! You dont know what this officer has just been envolved in. He or she faces all kinds of crazies everyday. Be upfront tell them you are carrying, where it is, where your permit and ID are and ask them what they want you to do. This will put them at ease and trust me you dont them freaking out if you can help it. This has worked for me in the past and I have had the police officer thank me for it! If they go off the reservation and start talking crazy and you think they are violating yout rights, dont argue with them ever, just tell them you want to speak with there shift supervisor, they will clear the problem up and most likely send you on your way as long you have corrperated and not argued beyond our rights. Some police will over react and only violate your rights once you give them away! Learn the laws in your area and follow them and you will most likely never have an issue with carrying. Remember Concealed Carry means just that, conceal it.

Wow. Thanks for posting the district court decision. It's shocking that a judge could disregard with a "golly, the court is sorry for your inconvenience" line what was clearly an illegal detention.
If cops can detain you in order to ascertain if you've committed a crime, which is what that judgement says, then they can detain you for any reason at all. Evil.
