No, my own prejudices (which admittedly are legion) are likely vastly different from yours.

The book Similarities Between Mormonism and Islam by Brannon S. Howse was written in 1912. This predates my existence by many generations, so it is not my own unique prejudicial opinion that LDS is very similar to Islam.

I don't think the South has many Mormons (seriously, you'd be amazed how many the NYC metro area has), but once you get past the friendly smiles and willingness to lend a hand you get a much better picture of them, and it it gets very creepy very fast.

Tip: Never, ever take a Book of Mormon, even to be polite. You've been warned.

Tip: To spite someone you truly dislike, have a Book of Mormon sent to them.

AH HORSESH!T, KREUTZ! An anti-Mormon tract written in 1912? REALLY? Why not a 17th-century tract written to establish that all PROTESTANTS are the Devil's spawn? I don't get too excited about you being abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, and hateful, but when you get this damn silly and then apparently expect us to swallow it I DO get a little bit hacked off.

I don't expect (or care actually) for you to do anything. I simply stated that Islam and LDS have many similarities, and this opinion is not unique to me and goes back a ways. Even a quick Google search will confrim this.

Would you be as irritated if I pointed out Roman Catholicism bears many similarities to the Mithraic cults of antiquity, something else more than one scholar has noted?

Its no coincedence the Vatican is built on the ruins of a Mithra temple (really a glorified cave) from about 600BCE, it was a very symbolic choice for building on the old order.

Plus St Peters (fitting as Primus Pontiff) supposedly buried there.

The cult of Deus Sol Invictus also played a huge influence on early Christians.

All true, far as I know. The early Catholics highjacked a lot of pagan festivals because people continued to celebrate them (being unwilling to forfiet an excuse to party, I figure). In the short term, they had pagans celebrating a Christian holiday. Eventually they completely coopted them into Catholicism. Daddy Celt celebrated All Hallows Eve because it let him keep partying at Samhain. His kids (or grandkids, at least) celebrated it because it was a Catholic holiday. And many and perhaps about all religions have built their own sanctuaries on top of those of preceding cults - just look at the mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. (1) It recycles a structure and saves a lot of cost, and (2) It delivers the message that there's a new sheriff in town. (3) They were also usually situated in the best place FOR such a facility. Similarly, about all religions take at least some elements of preceding ones. That's not evidence (in and of itself) of anything sinister or unsavory. Seems to me it's mostly pragmatism.

So what's your point?

You must be joking. After your panties get in a bunch because I mention LDS shares many similarities with Islam (I guess because your ersatz Savior is a mormon), I show that my assertion is not unique, and not from my own prejudices.

I offer a further example in one religion drawing parallels to another, this time selecting the Holy Roman Apostolic Catholic Church and good ole Mithra wth a bonus Sol Invictus.

To which you reply with stuff anyone should know and then ask my point?

My guess would be that your clan seldom sees 65 because long before that they will have aggravated someone into wringing their necks. Your half-baked indictment of Mormons based upon a 1912 tract is simply based upon a not even remotely authoritative source. I'm sure you can't find a writing from that era that asserts that black people are subhuman, the KKK is the bulwark of Christianity and good morals and those new-fangled automobiles and telephones will never catch on. It would be no less bogus, bigoted, and a product of the ignorance and prejudice of that time than the one you cite on Mormons.

It has not one thing to do with the other parallels you drew; except perhaps in your own febrile mind. This will no doubt come as a shock to you, but the fact that you said it does not make it true. It doesn't even make it believable. Matter of fact, I'm getting so the fact that you said it automatically casts doubt on it.

The fascinating thing is I've never seen you leap to the defense of Muslims when the numerous anti-Muslim posts full of fanciful nonsense pop up here. My favorite was one thread where a car exploded in Michigan IIRC and it had to be a Muslim conspiracy because there happened to be a town with alot of Muslims some miles away.

No denunciations from Martin Luther Dormin King there though, how come?

Yet I compate LDS to Islam (because they share many similiarities in the land of facts) and man are you a soldier of tolerance.

Get over yourself. If Obama was a Mormon you'd be denouncing them for many lurid imagined reasons. But because Mittens is one, well, Joseph Smith damn it, they're A-OK!

OK, you think I'm transparent, and I think you're just as full of crap as a foundered bull. I'm tired of entertaining all the others by feeding the troll. There's no use trying to tell anything to somebody that knows every damn thing there is to know. My bad.

awww and I was just headed out to get the

On the Mormon note. I disagree with much of Mormonisms historical claims. I made a cursory study of it in college and found things that would disquiet me if I was a Mormon. I am not, however I am a Baptist in most things. However Mormons themselves are usually good decent people who are very pro-family and pro-America including the 2nd amendment. So him being a Mormon does not disquiet me in the least. Now you want to talk about something disquieting, look up Obamas "conversion" story....now that is disquieting.
