Man am I glad I found this thread. I don't like to keep a round chambered at home either. My gun is in a rapid entry safe by my bed, but I still like that extra step to fire for piece of mind around my kids.
In addition to that, I have an agreement with my employers to keep my gun unloaded in a safe (in my brief case, so close at hand) while at work. This agreement allows me to carry from my car to the office and back, and also allows me to keep it indoors during the cold winter.
Unfortunately this also means that I am loading/unloading at least twice daily.
I'm interested to see more suggestions on handling rotation in a cost conscious manner.
