Well, with the weather turning nasty I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I promised Young I would finish her garden this weekend. If it rains Sat I'll be stuck doing it on Sunday...I'll watch the weather and post up Saturday afternoon...

Wait a min... Let's change the meet and greet to my location.... you'll already have ear and eye protection. And if you really want, I can get lunch from the 5 guys here. C'mon, we can knock it out real quick. LOL.

Did I mention you can OC at my place too.... :w00t:
I'm sure we could help. We can all bring our heaviest caliber guns and some armor piercing ammo and use the floor for target practice. Then fill the holes with some mild C4 charges and blasting caps and tada tile floor job DONE! Another tile job done by the VGOF :hysterical:

John,

Is there anything specific that you would like me to bring? I was thinking of bringing some yellow "Caution" tape to mark the firing line so that we have a specific place where everyone must be behind before calling a hot range.

Also, here is a list of safety considerations to go along with that.

One person will be designated as the Range Master.
The Range Master will call "COLD RANGE" when people want to go downrange to place targets or look at shot grouping, etc.

When the range is COLD:
- All firearms must be down, actions open or holsterd empty.
- No firearms are to be handled

When the range is HOT it will be announced by the Range Master.
- Commence fire, at will
- No persons beyond the yellow tape (Firing Line)

No one under age 18 at the firing line unless properly supervised
Hearing and eye protection is required at all times on the firing line

And of course, four basic safety rules:
- Treat all firearms as if they are loaded at all times
- Always keep weapons pointed downrange
- Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy
- Finger off the trigger until ready to fire

Anything else anyone would like to add?

Tell ya what I have a 20Ga single shot that I can bring out that someone (Kids and such) can shoot those shells

The caution tape is a good idea, I was thinking of using some marking paint to put a line down but the tape sounds better. The only safety item I would add is that if members choose to share a firearm with another member, give that person a good rundown of all the working parts. I have seen some scary things when someone is unfamiliar with a weapon and they don't know where the safety is, how to load it or other critical fire control parts. I will share any gun that I bring but I will make sure the other shooter knows the gun before it is loaded. Great safety ideas Rick, I will probably have a quick safety brief once we get set up. I know most of you have probably been shooting longer than I have but it never hurts just to cover the basics again. it is also good for the kids to hear these rules again and again so that it becomes second nature for them.

Bill, I was on a DART team(Downed Aircraft Recovery Team) when I was in the service and I loved to see the demo guy play with semtex and det cord. Det cord by itself is great for removing tree stumps and other annoying limbs, like an Al Qaida scumbags leg or arm. But then again that would be against the Geneva convention. Good thing were not fighting terrorists in Geneva :hysterical:

I will also have loose Black Powder at my area for my pistols. If anyone wants to have fun shooting the Army Colt 44 cal or the percusion .45 cal cap and ball I will be happy to go over the guns with them. The Colt is Single action and a real fun gun to shoot.

Do we want to set a pistol area up seperate from the rifle area? I will look for some flagging tape as well.

I will also bring out a Grill and some Hot Dogs and fixens

I don't believe in the Geneva Convention unless the people we are fighting adhere to it. Unlike the V.C. that did not adhere to it nor would I if I had to live it over again. I could show you how to use Det. Cord and do interagations and get all the info you want. Yep ! I am still a sick unit. Gotta go it's flash back time again.

I would love to try the cap and ball Colt. I have seen a lot of info about it and always wanted to see and shoot one. We have a large area and I would like to get some help setting up the range from a member that is more experienced than I am. I usually have 4 or 5 friends with me and we use one area but this group will be much larger. We can set up two areas, one for rifles at 100-250 yards and one for pistols. We can decide once we get to the farm. The grill is a good idea, we will be eating at Five Guys but I am sure the smell of gun powder in the air will work up some appetites. Harris Teeter has Nathans hot dogs on sale, buy one get one free. Let me know if you would like me to pick up some.

Bill my uncle Tom was in a special forces unit in Vietnam. He trained Montanyards and was part of the very same interrogation techniques you are hinting at. He also liked the helicopter ride approach. Two VC go up, one comes down. I agree completely about not giving Geneva convention protections to an enemy that does not play by the rules. The problem is now we fight our wars with CNN directing them. God bless our troops for doing the impossible all while being held to ridiculous rules of engagement.

Yep ! I remember the Rule's of Engagement bullshit and the no fire zone's and the free fire zones. Unlike the war's today any Dink that had a weapon in his or her hand's and did not have on a uniform that I recognized as being one of our team the next thing I would see would be a set of crosshairs on their chest or head depending on the distance and look ma no more Dink. My nick name in country was Scarecrow because I was so skinney. I think I went a whole 140 lbs. at 6'1" My Co. would tell me if I ever got into the poop bad to hide behind my bolt gun and they would never find me. See y'all Saturday.

I am coming up short on interesting targets. I might have a few hard drives.

I do, however, have a footman's steel helmet. Of course - that mught be a ricochet hazard.

KaosDad - fun targets include a bunch of frozen water balloons. Better yet those that are partially frozen with some liquid at the core :)

Bummer I'm likely to miss this event. Had other committments to go to Bull Run for a few rounds. Otherwise.....

Cheers

If there is going to be food, lets make sure several people bring extra water for washing up. At least some gojo too (I have some stuff called DLead). Don't want to be eating what you shoot...even indirectly.

Only if you shoot with a pistol or a whippy gun like .223.

Won't be bringing the .50bmg this time (stole the scope off it for the 300 Varminter because Premier is back-ordered), but I will be doing some initial testing of a new .338LM load. A 300gr Scenar at 2700+fps isn't going to be stopped by anything you want to wear on your head. :tinfoil:
