I still have my little golden ticket to SEG that I got at the picnic way back when. If anyone wants it lemme know because the way it's lookin I probably won't be getting out there any time soon even with school out till January. Kinda sucks only having one car with a bunch of people that need driven around and nothing but a .22

Re: silver eagle group, ashburn va
Nice Place to shoot. But why would anyone pay for monthly membership only to be told you can not shoot becuase the range is closed for training? Do they credit your account or refund a part of the monthly costs; when you can not shoot. Currently Plus membership are not available. You have to pay as you go for now. I asked about membership they say it comming but they do not know the date. The retail section is a joke, the guys behind the counter are clowns. If brains where gun powder they wouldn't have enough to blow there noses. The gun selection is poor; with only a few items to select. The ammo costs are over the top even for gun range.

Give me a break. First and foremost, Silver Eagle Group is a range and training facility. Everyone I know there has been extremely helpful. The courses are first rate. Granted, it does not have the largest retail section in the world. This is why we have gun stores and the Internet which is where I buy most of my products. The guys behind the counter work hard and are just doing their jobs. Ammo costs are always going to be higher in a place like this. I go to Wal-Mart and get Federal 9mm Luger for $9.47/50 round box. I won't even buy ammo at my local gun stores even though I would like to support them. They have to charge more to make a profit. It is called capitalism.GUN123 wrote:The retail section is a joke, the guys behind the counter are clowns. If brains where gun powder they wouldn't have enough to blow there noses. Re: silver eagle group, ashburn va
Even though my home is in Ashburn, I've never had the opportunity to visit the Silver Eagle Group until last Saturday, since I'm usually in Williamsburg with my younger brother (We both attend/attended the same college).
I recently purchased an AR-15 and needed to sight it. I wanted to sight it in at 50 yards so that left me with either going to the NRA range or the SEG range. Well, I decided to give Silver Eagle Group a try.
It was around 1pm when I got there, but I didn't have to wait because they had a lane available.
The lady at the front desk was very kind enough to watch my gear while I grabbed more ammunition cans from the car, talk to the guys at the sales area, etc.
Since it was my first time there, the RSO went over the safety rules with me in the little room next to the range. I really liked this because he was very thorough, informative and serious about the safety issues (I've been to some ranges that doesn't seem to care much, like the Marksman in NN...). I would recommend any of my friends that are shooting for their first time to go to the SEG just because of this.
The lanes were divided with a clear panel. I am used to shooting at ranges which don't have these, but I'm guessing it allows shooters to be more aware of their surroundings (easier to spot somebody mishandling their firearms, etc).
The electronic target system worked flawlessly, except for the one time where the cardboard fell off on me (This was easily fixed by the RSO since it happened within the shooting booth).
Ventilation also seemed superb, but I did sweat a little bit after spending 2+ hrs in there.
I was having issues with my A2 style front sight (couldn't turn the damn thing with the tip of the bullet) and couldn't zero my iron sights. I ended up zeroing the EOTech only.
I paid $15 with the student I.D. discount for an hour prior to entering the range. As more and more people started to come in (at some point it was just me and another lane in the range) I grabbed all my gear and proceeded outside to "check out." I knew that I've overshot my 1 hour range time so I tried waiting for the RSO who was still in the range instructing a few kids shooting pistols for the first time, until the lady at the front desk checked the range card for me and told me it was okay for me to just go. Knowing that I overshot my range time by at least an hour so I double checked with her, but she smiled and said it was okay.
I can say nothing but good things about SEG range and would definately go there to shoot again (especially with the student discount they offer).

As one of the unofficial (and uncompensated) SEG Ambassadors, I bid you
. Your experience is not uncommon and is what sets SEG apart from other ranges in the area. I hope you will become a regular visitor and take advantage of their facility to its fullest. If you can, get there as early as you can especially on 1100 hours days and have the range all to yourself.
Get to know the crew; Dave, DK, Melissa & Cee Cee. For extra points, talk to Cee Cee for a few minutes then try and guess her country of origin. She totally stumped my daughter and I. OK, like that's hard to do.
In any case - I am glad you had a good time. PM me of you plan on going again and perhaps we can share a lane. Also - there is a thread around here about meeting up after the next IDPA match for some grub and fellowship.

I have been there a few times and they were all good experiences despite the bad rap the place received when it first opened. Sadly I wont go back.
The owning family's political contributions have been discussed ad nauseam making the range a hot topic for those of us that don't want our fees going back into the campaign kitty of the gun grabbers. Something similar can be said for BRA.

I shot their IDPA match last month; it was my first visit to SEG. I was impressed with the place and treated very well by all. Looking forward to the SEG IDPA match next month on the 13th and meeting some of the members of this board at the match and the following meet & greet.

Re: silver eagle group, ashburn va
I think SEG is top notch. I drive right past NRA on my way to SEG. The folks that work at SEG are always friendly and helpful. The RSOs will even give you a tip or two if you ask for it. The new hours are killing me though. Closed Mon. and Tues. and all next week(Thanksgiving week). Have family coming to town for that week and wanted to take my son to the range one day so he could shoot some of my handguns. I understand the need to let the employees take some time off but all week!? It sure puts a crimp in our plans. I guess we will just have to go on the weekend and put up with the one hour-plus waiting times.

While Fimian would have been a better pro-gun candidate, people don't always vote on one issue. SEG is a nice place to shoot, and last time I checked, this is ostensibly a multiple-party country.

I have posted before, I may not agree with SEG owners political viewpoint but it is their right to have one that is different from me. I think SEG is top notch and my wife and I will continue to shoot there as often as possible.

Re: silver eagle group, ashburn va
My, how things have changed at Silver Eagle. I still think it is a top notch operation but I will probably have to go somewhere else to shoot. I have walked out of the place three times in the last two months, the last time today. My wife and I showed up today around 12:30 and was told it would be an hour wait so we decided to go get some lunch. After lunch, I called to see how busy the range was and was told the wait was over an hour. Don't get me wrong, I fully support small business and love to see success but I also have things that I need to get done on the weekend. I drive 40 minutes to get to the range, wait an hour to get a lane, get kicked off after exactly 1 hour, and drive 40 minutes home. Somehow, 3-1/2 hours to shoot for 1 hour does not seem equitable. I have paid the annual fee the last two years and until this year it was a pretty good deal. Even if I didn't go twice a month, the ability to get my range time in and then get my other tasks done made it worth the money. It seems that paying the fee on an annual basis might get me some perks. However, if I cannot get on the range, it is not such a good deal. Since paying annually doesn't seem to get me anything and I can't seem to get in two range visits per month, I will probably just pay per visit after my annual expires. Ironically, I just got an email that they are reducing the initiation fee this month $25 per person so things are probably going to be worse and not get any better. They also state that twice per month pays for itself over the per use rate. (If you can get on the range twice per month I guess it does) Does anyone know where there is a nice range that I would not have a long wait on a regular basis? I drive from Falls Church and would even be willing to drive a little further if I didn't have to wait forever once I got there.

OK, because I cannot resist a hornet's nest.....
What did you expect on a weekend? You can count the number of firing ranges in NOVA on one hand. You can count the number of quality ranges on about two fingers. Now, let me give you a suggestion - get a membership. You jump the line on busy days.
