With much bigger fish to fry (Bloomberg pushing his 50 million dollar anti gun agenda, gun confiscation being pushed in multiple states) there were many better things they could have gone for than starting a fight with a gun shop.SpanishInquisition wrote:The position of having some horses ass use their name and the 500 lb gorilla tactic in the same communiqué in order to attempt to sway the proprietor.
Like it or not, his store, his rules.
...but I'm not gonna shop there either.
Bottom line, two instances where VCDL Executive members or VCDL-PAC representatives interacted in public with people outside their organization (or their interactions were made public) were Charlie Foxtrots. I'm taking my monetary sponsorship to another group.

Re: "Absolute Outdoors" gun unfriendly... gun store.
Somebody already said it before: It would have been better if neither party had said what he said the way he said it.
The gun owner comes across as somebody whose establishment I would avoid, and I think most people will feel that way. But he has every right to be as big a delta hotel as he wants to be. In fact, if he's that way with everybody, it's probably a pretty good idea for him not to allow people in his store with a loaded gun. That may just be the best judgment he's exercised.
The VCDL spokesman came on too strong, too, IMO. As someone already said, the store owner is entitled to make the rules in his store. The 2nd Amendment only applies to the government. Lord knows I don't want to defend the store owner, but for all we know, the store owner may have had a bad experience with a dumb@ss with a gun (or an attempted holdup, or an irate spouse, or an idiot employee mishandling a customer's loaded gun - or lots of other things). Beyond that, I just think it is a little bit extreme for the VCDL to get into that particular situation in the first place. It's a little bit like the people down in Texas ostentatiously carrying AR-15s into restaurants just because they can. It just comes across as obnoxious and overbearing even if that was not the intent. And it's like getting into a p!ssing match with a skunk, too. This guy at the gun store obviously doesn't give a damn what people think, so, like the skunk, he's got nothing to lose by making a stink that will rub off on whoever he has an encounter with. I think very much exposure on actions like this might be likely to make legislators take the VCDL less seriously in the future. You just don't win many friends in Richmond by generating avoidable controversy. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the way I see it.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Just an FYI for anyone who cares. I drove by this particular gun store today.
I didn't get a picture. But it looks like the sign in question was removed. I didn't see another one or smaller one similar anywhere else. Including the other stuff shown on the door in the old picture. There is no a "Don't tread on me"/Gadsen sticker. And a Second Amendment sticker saying something along the lines of "Preserving the 2A right to bear arms".

I have an update for this store so I thought I'd drop it here. I don't know when this sticker was added to the door. Obviously it's been since Aug. 15. As well as what JackFlag mentioned two posts ago, there is now an oval sticker with a circled handgun pictured. Underneath it reads the following:
GUNS ARE WELCOME ON PREMISES
PLEASE KEEP ALL WEAPONS
HOLSTERED UNLESS NEED ARISES.
IN SUCH CASE, JUDICIOUS
MARKSMANSHIP IS MUCH APPRECIATED
So, I went in to find the rear of the store has been changed around. Instead of a couple small cases with only used handguns at ridiculous prices($749 for a used gen 3 Glock 22?), there are now new handguns on rolling wall displays at fairly reasonable prices. I saw a new gen 4 Glock 34 for $659 and two new S&W Shields for $399 IIRC. There are still used guns and I wouldn't say they're priced well, but I didn't notice anything stupid high like before.

Well, that's good to hear. I don't know what drove the change of heart, but good for them.

He probably felt a little backlash. My guess is that he didn't take that first contact seriously. Combine that with stress that comes from owning a business, and maybe something had happened that put him in a bad mood.
So he gets an unsolicited email from a guy that he doesn't know, who's questioning how he runs his business. He shoots back a nasty-gram, forgets about it, and suddenly, it seems like the whole gun community is glaring at him.
Maybe. I base that whole scenario on my imagination. I don't know why he changed his mind.
