In the late 50's and early 60's, there were still some folks living down south that were born into slavery. They just never went out and made a name for themselves.

My father met one ore two of them, and my Grandmother (still living) met plenty of them.

These folks would have been no use to the civil agitators, as they were content and decent people. They found value in an honest days work, understood that they were owed nothing, and generally felt blessed to have what they did.

J.C. Watts grew up in that atmosphere, if I recall correctly. Though, I can't remember whether or not he had occasion to meet previously enslaved relatives.

Slavery was legally abolished via the ratification of the 13th Amendment in 1865. No one alive today knows anyone who was a slave. The last known American slave is thought to be Eliza Moore who died in 1948. Even if anyone alive today meet Eliza, they were either so young or are so old that they don't remember.

And, Eliza was born in 1863, just before Lincoln made the declaration. Being an infant as a slave and freed before age 1 hardly counts since there was zero experience.

Yes, those who bitch about slavery need to let it go. 150+ year old multi-generational grudge it too much.

'Zackly. They need to forget about what happened 150, 100 or even 50 years ago and get on with being a mainstream, productive American. Their forebearers may have been removed from Africa, but they have had the great advantage of being a citizen of this country with the full measure of rights, privileges, entitlements and relative riches that ONLY Americans enjoy - whatever their skin color. Or if they just can't get over their ancestors having been ripped away from their homes and they just can't get over it, we should, as a last measure of reparations, repatriate them to Africa on condition they never return. So tell 'em to choose, and then shut up and live with it just like the rest of us.

Allow me to amend that slightly: EXCEPT for Jessee Jackson and Al Sharpton. I wouldn't give them the choice because I know they would never STFU. So send them straight back to Africa with no questions, choices or options.
