The DHS can't go after any real terrorists. They would have to use the precious bullets they are saving for use on the American people. On top of that, they are only being trained to shoot kids and pregnant women these days. Or did everyone forget this already? http://communities.washingtontimes.com/ ... hildren-p/

Did you notice that all of the targets were of the Non-Hispanic Caucasian Variety?

Now THIS is rich...and timely given the discussion on page 2 of this thread... now we have Axelrod alluding to the timing of the bombing being on tax day:
"The word has taken on a different meaning since 9/11," Axelrod said of the phrase "terrorist attack."

"You use those words and it means something very specific in people's mind. And I'm sure what was going through the president's mind is -- we really don't know who did this -- it was tax day. Was it someone who was pro--you know, you just don't know. And so I think his attitude is, let's not put any inference into this, let's just make clear that we're going to get the people responsible."
Bold emphasis was mine, but there you have it. The Obama administration will not miss an opportunity to hype the 'home grown terrorist' angle, into which they can conveniently lump the likes of you and me. As someone joked earlier, this will end up being the GOP's fault if they can find a way.

How can you NOT blame DHS?

Saudi Arabia is known as one of the hottest terrorist nations in the world. Most of the 9-11 attackers were Saudis. And yet the DHS is giving them passport privileges that countries like France don't even have.

Something as simple as blocking Saudi visas would have possibly prevented this attack. The DHS has plenty to be blamed for.
Fair enough on the passports.

No evidence at the time that it was a Saudi. No evidence that it was even a foreign national. Speculating is all ya'll are doing and its just a waste of data to store such things.

It was a bunch of Saudi citizens eleven year ago that took down the towers and the pentagon. It is the Saudi's that are exporting Wahhabi Islam at an alarming rate. So I think suspicious of the Saudi Arabian citizenry is warranted. They should not get a free pass into our country when others of less threatening background do not.

The explosives used in the deadly Boston Marathon bombing were contained in 6-liter pressure cookers and hidden in black duffel bags on the ground, a person briefed on the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

One of the explosives contained shards of metal and ball bearings, and another contained nails, the person said...

...These types of pressure cooker explosives have been used in Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan, according to a July 2010 joint FBI and Homeland Security intelligence report. One of the three devices used in the May 2010 Times Square attempted bombing was a pressure cooker, the intelligence report said

Wow. You could carry around a 6-quart pot under your arm like a football. And if the bombs were that small and still contained nails, ball bearings, etc., I'm somewhat more impressed with their power. They seemed to have a pretty small blast radius on the videos, but it looks to me like it turns out the blast was more respectable for the size of the package. Maybe these folks knew something about what they were doing after all.

Can you imagine what havoc they could wreak if a half-dozen crazies went around any city planting 2-3 of those things apiece?

Maybe just the high capacity pressure cookers. You know those crazy prepper people use them, right?

Scary thing is that I did a big search for pressure cookers just a few months ago looking for a large stainless steel one for a completely harmless and non-violent project of mine. Guess that would fetch me some visitors from one or more of the alphabet of federal agencies (FBI, ATF, DHS, etc.) now.

Haha, just got my wife one for Christmas, I guess I'm on the list too.

Listening to Limbaugh right now, and it is apparent that the new meme for the day is "it wasn't Al Qaida", or "it wasn't the Saudi guy". It is such theater watching this stuff unfold (although my thoughts and prayers are with those affected, I don't mean to make light of that). Just wait until the spin machines get cranked up. Every time there is a major media event.

Not calling this terrorism is disingenuous in the extreme, especially since the "t" word was kind of the justification for gutting our civil liberties.

I heard about the Saudi, but some outlets say no one is in custody and no suspects are known yet.

A similar thing was tried in Seattle in 2010:

http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/ ... sives.html
A man with extensive ties to white supremacists pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal charges he planted a bomb that was intended to hurl poison-laced shrapnel into the multicultural crowd marching in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade last January.

Kevin Harpham, 37, reached a deal with federal prosecutors for a recommended sentencing range of 27 to 32 years in prison just days before his trial was to begin in U.S. District Court.

The pipe bomb was loaded with lead fishing weights coated in rat poison, which can inhibit blood clotting in wounds, officials have said.
The MO also reminds me of Eric Rudolph, but he's been in jail for awhile now.

A suspect has been identified.

FBI may announce details around 5pm.

Conflicting details... some media outlets say an arrest has been made, others that they have pics of someone they are looking for.

Go over to http://www.freerepublic.com and there are some discussions going on that link to picture collections on the 'net. There is an army of armchair sleuths out there noticing some very interesting things in the photos, with circled pics showing the several persons-of-interest. One guy in particular has a backpack on before the blast in one photo, but not in a later photo. A backpack with a noticeable bulge in it, and with details that look similar to the backpack fragments from the scene.

I just heard on the radio about the suspect being 'dark skinned'; if it is the same guy, he definitely looks middle eastern in the photos. There is also a discussion about pics of the electronics that were discovered, details of the bomb fragments, etc. This is getting very interesting.

Now saying they have the suspect in custody. Evidently it was someone they knew, that's a pretty fast turnaround from "hey, we have a picture of him" to "he's in custody".

CNN has more details, but they're refusing to release it since it's "sensitive" data.

Looks like more unconfirmed junk now. If they *don't* have him in custody, they probably don't want to release pictures of him (especially if they did recognize him). No sense in warning the guy that the pizza delivery guys aren't really dropping off a large pie with extra pepperoni.
