I agree with all 3 above posts.

I mentioned this Indiana law last night to the LEO that lives upstairs from me.
She said that a law like that one will NEVER be enacted here in Virginia.
I just bit my tongue and didn't agree or disagree.
Time will tell.
BTW - I think the law is a good thing but I also agree that if you fire at a cop mistakenly storming your house you WILL lose. Most likely your life.

To add some humor:
I was talking to some close friends who are LEO's, and asked "Is it ever okay to shoot cops?"
Best answer: "Tuesday."
Second best: "Only if your wife or girlfriend is on top, and it passes thru."
Runner up: "Sure, go 'right ahead!

"

Does happen.
A few years ago, a Chesapeake man shot and killed a police officer who was attempting to serve a no-knock drug warrant. He claimed self defense. The jury chose to convict him of voluntary manslaughter (10 years) as opposed to capital murder. Given the circumstances, but for the presence of a recreational amount of pot, the guy may well have been acquitted.

Yeah, for what that's worth.
Maybe he's also a recently-returned "war hero", too. How many 'special' classes can we lump these public SERVANTS into so it makes it a greater crime to kill one of them than it is for them to kill one of us?

It doesn't need to be. Common law handles this situation just fine the way it is.
