I was thinking the same thing. So, we need to determine what specific message we want to convey. Then we can mail and fax.

Umm, I think we should be careful of the words we use. While I understand what the word "bomb" means in its usage here, I have to wonder how anyone else reading this forum might take it. It's bad enough that DHS, VSP, and Brady has assigned various names to people like us, all of which would indicate we could be hazardous to the government. It took Webb so long to answer me I was beginning to think I would find federal agents waiting on me at the house.

Maybe "information overload" would be a better term. It would have to be by fax, snail mail wouldn't hit soon enough. We need to send this wee, before the next vote. Warner needs to be included.

I just sent Congressman Boucher some fan mail on this subject as he supported the horror show I saw when I watched the bill pass the house on CSPAN. He used the EPA as an excuse to support the bill. The EPA is another agency needing to be nuetered.

TOUCHDOWN !!!!!!!

THAT'S PRECISELY WHAT I'M TRYING TO DO WITH THIS THREAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is we need to get as many of us as we can (and family / friends) to participate.

Too many of us watch from the sidelines until its too late.

Watch for more posts like this concerning upcoming legislative actions.

The senate vote on Cap and Trade will be this week. If you haven't already done so NOW is the time to inundate their phones/fax/e-mail.

I've posted a draft letter at the top of this post and others have embellished. Feel free to use as you see fit.

If this passes look for 15%+ percent unemployment when business cuts jobs to make up for extra energy costs.

Here are a couple of fax documents that you may fax to our senators. Fax numbers are on the document. Just change the Name, City and State to your own, sign and fax!

Nice job, Rick!! I've been thinking about a "petition" type strategy for things like this. I'll send you some thoughts later.

The G-8 has agreed to a "cap on global temperatures." That's just going to make Cap and Trade worse and give the administration more reason to push it.

The SENATE has to approve treaties. Once again, the reason that the "founders" had them appointed by the States and not elected. Just one more take away of State power. We have enough conservative Senators to keep this from happening, I think the libs will be close though.

Doesn't have to be a treaty with Cap and Trade. Just pass a law that meets the requirements of what the G8 wants and it's done or tweak the caps a little because "we're not doing enough." There are 60 democrats in the Senate now.

60 percent of the American people are against it. Our Congress is flipped upside down, but the electorate will not be in 2010.

Have we all been enjoying Carter's 2nd term?

Ratifying a treaty is alot easier than passing a law. Treaties are transmitted to the Senate by the president. The senate votes. If it passes then they send it back to the president for signature. Treaties require a 2/3 vote in the senate to pass. Laws require a majority of the quorum. Some laws are special case and require 2/3 vote to pass. Also, laws and treaties differ in how they are implemented and enforced. Treaties become law of the land if they are compatible with constitutional requirements (whatever that means).

Has anyone else gotten a response from their emails?
I got the initial, "Thanks for emailing," but I just got these yesterday:
Dear Mr. Bouchard,

Thank you for contacting me about global warming and related legislation. I appreciate hearing your views on this important issue.

In order to best protect America's citizens and environment, I believe that we need to develop a comprehensive energy policy that both reduces our emissions and utilizes alternative sources of energy. Doing so would not only help to preserve the environment, but would also create green jobs and ultimately lower domestic energy costs. Any discussion of our national energy policy must also consider the international scope of this challenge as individual nations confront problems such as the finite supply of fossil fuels, overhauling outdated energy infrastructures, and many other important environmental challenges.

Members of the relevant Congressional committees are currently working on legislation that would address climate change on a national level, and I look forward to participating in this debate during the 111th Congress. Though the science surrounding this issue supports the need for dramatic changes in policy, any comprehensive legislation to address climate change must balance this interest with the need to keep our economy viable during this challenging time.

Thank you again for your input on global warming. Please be assured that I will continue to monitor related legislation and will consider your views as the Senate debates and votes on relevant legislation. I very much look forward to serving the Commonwealth during the 111th Congress.

Sincerely,
MARK R. WARNER
United States Senator
Dear Wesley:

Thank you for contacting my office with your concerns regarding climate change and legislative proposals for addressing it. I appreciate your taking the time to share your views with me.

Legislation to address climate change has potentially large repercussions for our economy, and as such, it deserves to be fully vetted and debated. Some of the current proposed mechanisms to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including cap and trade, suffer from inefficiency, potentially high consumer costs, and would require excessively large bureaucracies to administer. These concerns should be addressed prior to the enactment of cap and trade legislation.

The centerpiece of any climate policy must encourage the development of clean energy sources and carbon-mitigating technologies. We should explore mechanisms to combat global climate change that will incentivize factory owners, manufacturers, and consumers to become more energy efficient. We should also fund research and development for technologies that will enable clean use of this country’s vast fossil fuel resources.

Climate policy must also be fair. This problem is global, and a comprehensive solution must include all major emitters. Whatever climate policy we pursue, it should not undercut and displace American workers in the global marketplace. Here at home, we must ensure that the policy is fair across all regions of this nation, does not disadvantage the citizens of one state against another, and does not become a regressive tax on those facing economic hardship.

As the U.S. Senate considers various proposals, I believe strongly that these principles can be applied in a way that preserves our environment while simultaneously fostering jobs and economic growth. Please be assured that my staff and I will keep your views in mind. Thank you for your correspondence on this issue of national and global importance. Please do not hesitate to contact me and my staff in the future.

I would also invite you to visit my website at www.webb.senate.gov for regular updates about my activities and positions on matters that are important to Virginia and our nation.

Thank you once again for contacting my office.

Sincerely,

Jim Webb
United States Senator

Yay for assistant generated responses.

Same thing here,, 2 from Webb and 1 from Warner,, It sucks that politicians are not required to actually tell you their positions on a subject,, I'm a big fan of state supported recall of elected people in Wahington if they are not doing their job

I received the same responses to mine. Is there a pattern here...

Liberal translation of their responses: Ok, we hear you but we're gonna tax the living crap out of you anyway - because we think its a good thing.
