Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia

We don't need legislation regarding no guns signage. It's simple enough, if you are carrying and asked to leave, then leave.

I'd prefer no strict language. Then we'd have to be even more wary. Best policy is concealed, and leave when asked to leave. I went to JarEd's with a friend and didn't notice their sign since they had a topiary in front of it.

sorry, I thought I read somewhere about signage. I look for the typical gun busting signs. The one at Waffle House wasn't even on the door, it was at the end of the building away from the entrance.

I'm not sure if it's been said as I didnt read through all 17 pages but the toys r us in colonial heights has it posted at their entrance. My niece and nephew were highly upset that their uncle wouldnt take them to toys r us but instead made them pick out a book at the books a million next door

Chesterfield Town Center Mall:

I was OCing there earlier today and was just finishing up my meal when the mall cops rolled up on there Segways and informed me that I wasn't allowed to carry there. I asked if that was the mall's policy and they said it was and then I asked why it wasn't posted at the entrances and they say it was. I said "Not the Sears entrance."(The one I came in) and the guy thought for a second and then agreed that it wasn't posted there and that wasn't there domain. I told the guy have a nice day and said I'll take my business elsewhere.

You would think a mall on the decline like Chesterfield Town Center is would be wanting all the customers they can get but I suppose not.

SN: Even though Sears is connected to the mall and they are in the same shopping center I don't think the malls policies apply there.

Yeah, anchor stores have a lot of leeway. I notice that at Manassas Mall at one point the rules were posted at the door where you enter teh mall from Wal-Mart rather than where you enter Wal-Mart.

The only movie theater that I have seen that doesn't have any restrictions is BowTie at Movieland on Boulevard in Richmond.

Every where else has lil' "Eichman's" for managers. Just say "I'm sorry, firearms aren't allowed." Give me a refund, and I'll go on my way. .

I've seen no signs on the theaters I frequent, and I don't ask. If it's not prominently posted it's not restricted. Of course I know it's a different concern for OCers.

Add Paragon Village 12 in Spotsylvania to that list. I walked in OCing and had no problems with my Wife and a mutual friend. I left momentarily(so I thought) to use the restroom and a security guard told me I was not allowed to have Firearms in the VIP Area and asked me to put my Firearm in my vehicle. Seeing as I did not have my ticket on me as it was on the arm chair, I had to wait 45 minutes for my Wife to text me asking where I was. She then had to bring it back down to me. I had no problems walking in and the same security guard didn't say anything beforehand so I assume somebody complained. Oddly I saw a couple Spotsy Deputies walk in around the same time I was asked to leave.

There's no signage requirement. The point of signage is indicating to visitors of a property that firearms are not welcome. If you disregard a sign and go upon the property anyway, you can be cited for trespassing. If no sign is posted, you can be asked to leave. Failure to vacate the premises at that point would be grounds for a trespassing charge.

Either way, it all boils down to personal property rights. If a sign or a person asks you not to carry a firearm upon that property, then you are forbidden from doing so else risk a trespassing charge.

Paragon long ago removed their "no guns" sign. Not that it matters one way or another. Concealed means concealed.

Bowl America on Hull Street Road

Tonight I went to a local Bowl America with a friend. I double checked the doors for signs as I entered and none were posted. I rented to shoes and payed for the unlimited bowling($9.99). We bowled a few games before the same women that had checked us in came up and asked "Is that a real gun?" I calmly explained that it was real and that it was perfectly legal to open carry a firearm in the state of Virginia. I explained I carry for self defense and she gave the old "When would you ever need a gun?" So I referenced the recent Aurora shootings and her response was "O great another gun and more bullets." I told her I understood her concern but many mass shooters choose to kill themselves or surrender when met with armed resistance and had there been someone shooting back lives could have been saved. She said that the bowlers next to us were "sacred off" by the gun and that's what her concern was.
I didn't care to argue the point at the time but they bowled next to us for a good hour or so before leaving. I think they most likely just mentioned it in passing and the employee took that to mean they were sacred off. But that's just my pure conjecture on my part of course.
After the discussion about self defense she left and said that she's gonna have to "Check into it." I continued to bowl and noticed the employees having a little conference and shortly there after noticed one of the employees on the phone.
As I suspected they were phoning the police and shortly there after an officer arrived and approached me. He was very professional and explained that he would have to escort me to my vehicle to watch me unload and store my handgun as per the management's wishes. I told him that I would prefer to leave that establishment as I don't care to patronize an business that doesn't allow me to open carry. He was very respectful, not jumpy and didn't ask to secure the weapon or anything.
We turned in out shoes and as I was leaving reminded the employees that I and other gun right supporters will chose not to support you establishment with our business in the future. The women who first asked about it told me "Sorry..."

I'll be emailing Bowl America corporate and see if they have a differing stance.
