Should read "Have never been convicted of AN assault ....", not "A assault".

I'd vote against using photos of ammo as the "bullets".

Jake, "bullets" are little round black dots, not "bullets." Nice, though....but your perception is right, not very serious.

I agree with meak99 & tursiops

One last nitpick from me... Card now states "we noticed"... but everything else says I not we. We also suggests royalty to some.

Whether "I" or "we" is used, the next word in the sentence should be "have". "I have (or I've) noticed..." or "We have (or We've) noticed".

Also, is anyone interested in sifting through this thread and pulling out locations that have been identified and compiling a list? That was the original intent of this thread, anyway. I'm not sure how often the VCDL list is updated, but if it's like much of their website, it hasn't been updated for quite some time.

I was fairly certain that there was. But, I wanted to consult my mother, who is an English major. She also has a background in marketing, so I figured that her insight would have some value here.

Mom indicated that both ways were acceptable, but preferred "We have". She also suggested the use of the royal "We", as it implies a group of people instead of just one person. The implication of a group implies a larger loss of potential income.

The entire sentence that she suggested was, "We have noticed your sign and will respectfully take our business elsewhere."

She particularly liked the inclusion of the email address, as it implies that we are a reasonable group of people, and not a bunch of hot-heads with printed cards. Though, she also noted that it may also spawn some angry hate mail. Should hate mail be received, will it be posted for all of us to enjoy?

@SHMIV, thanks for the explanation. I'm happy to hear I did not miss some grammar rule. Jake should go with your mom's recommendation. I'm a product of military school where they taught us to avoid passive voice and not to use additional words when possible, plus I suck at writing.

@ Rick- Awesome, that could be fun

@ Chas- It sounds like they taught you from "The Elements of Style". That instructional publication was very big on the omission of unnecessary words, as well as the avoidance of passive voice. I used to own it, and I recall having seen it referenced in several schoolbooks. Myself, I grew up writing reports that had requirements in regard to the number of words used, thus I have a tendency to add extra words to my writing, lol.

I would like to say, I made a poor decision a few years back and I do have a DUI. However DUI's do not disqualify you from having a CHP. I'm sure there are quite a few on this forum that have one and also have a concealed. Just think that may be slightly misleading. Assault, felony etc will always be a permanent disqualifer, as for DUI, not so much. Any thoughts?

Yes it does, but I think only for 3 years, according to the state police website.

An individual who has been convicted of a violation of § 18.2-266 or a substantially similar local ordinance, or of public drunkenness, or of a substantially similar offense under the laws of any other state, the District of Columbia, the United States, or its territories within the three-year period immediately preceding the application, or who is a habitual drunkard as determined pursuant to § 4.1-33.

You sir are correct. However the card states that you have NEVER been convicted.

Sadly due to lack of support to fight it that 3 year DUI denial also got added to out of state DUI;s a couple sessions ago. not even a whimper from the gun people in this state,,,,Seems a dizzy rep from Newport News thought it was a good idea along with killing 3/4 of the good stuff that year..

Yeah my mistake, I went ahead and removed DUI as it's overly complicated to explain the 3 year thing. Thanks for catching that error.
