also, you might want to make the bullet point formatting consistent, ex all with a space after the hyphen or all without. or maybe use a traditional bullet point character, ● ■ ♦, etc.

just thoughts...
Fixed all of that but the bullet thing. Unfortunately GIMP has a really horrible text editor and it doesn't have bullets so I'm kinda stuck there.
Still think you should change "by shopping elsewhere" to by going elsewhere.
lots of businesses such as restaurants don't really involve shopping.

Also, why say "for your convenience?" Why not just say your business will be added to the published listing of firearm unfriendly businesses in Virginia.
Nice suggestion I'll modify the shopping to going. The "for your convenience"part is kinda just sarcastic. At least I took it that way so I left it in the modified card.
Jake, I don't want to seem cantankerous, but I would like to see this done effectively. Put yourself in the place of the store owner, and someone hands me a card that says he's going elsewhere and I'm losing his business and he's going to put me on some list. Well, I've already lost that guy, so what is this list? Is it some private poop (by the way, my submission did not use "poop," nice censoring software on here!) list he's got, or what? So I Google "Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia" and what pops up first? VCDL at http://www.vcdl.org/static/gue.html. Unfortunately, the second hit is VGOF, which has no list, just a bunch of posts, which the store owner might read, or not, but if he does the posts on here aren't probably going to be very compelling for him to change his policy. What does he care about? Bad PR, lost business. He isn't going to see much business lost from looking at either the VCDL or the VGOF sites. Just a bunch of gun nuts. And he won't see much bad PR, because all that bad PR on the list is just being seen by those same gun nuts. The list is preaching to the choir. He is only going to get worried if he sees a list that is getting outside the 2A folks, and being seen by lots of people....like maybe Tea Party folks, or all Republicans, or everybody military, etc. Enough people that the rethinks the sign on his door. So what can your card say that worries him? I guess the larger question is, how to get support outside our small community for that list of unfriendlies?

I definitively understand where your coming from. But this is a card, what your suggesting is somehow creating the illusion that his business will suffer big time loses because of his sign. How would one go about such a thing? I don't know of a national list and even still that wouldn't necessarily convey the large scale of the community. Either way a simple card along is not capable of such things.

I suggest using these words... Your business will be added to a published listing of Virginia businesses unfriendly to citizens lawfully carrying handguns for personal defense.

It also occurs to me that the card should have a provision for the business owner to get off the list should he change his policy. For example, should you change your prohibition against lawful citizen handgun carry, please call this number xxxxxx to have your business removed from the unfriendly businesses listing.

It worked! I have no idea why I didn't think of that. Thanks.

That is a good suggestion but I need to make it a little smaller. What about this:

Your business will be added to a published listing of Virginia businesses unfriendly to citizens lawfully carrying handguns for personal defense.
If you decide to change this policy please email (I think I'll set up a dedicated email address) so that your business can be removed from the list.

As long as we are adjusting things, the phrase "We noticed" should be "We've noticed" or "We have noticed".

The whole sentence could say " We have noticed your sign, and we will respect your wishes by taking our business elsewhere."

Thank you for putting this together, Jake. That's pretty awesome of you.

I think that NewColonial's point was that it should read "mentally incompetent" instead of "mental incompetent".

All in all though, it's looking great Jake!

I think it should read "legally incompetent or mentally incapacitated" .... not metally incompetent.

I am looking forward to the end result of these cards and can not wait to give some to my family to carry with them on their outings. What a great idea!

Tricky wording.
A 17-year-old GENIUS is legally incompetent, but not mentally incapacitated.

I would suggest that a good way to increase the impact of these cards on the merchant is to make sure that whenever one is used, word goes out to folks on this forum and as wide a community as possible and that those folks make it a point to also go there and hand them a card. If those cards start showing up regularly, it will be a lot less likely that the manager will dismiss it as "just one gun nut".

I like the idea of including an email address to be removed from the list...

How about gunfriendly@vgof.net

Also, is anyone interested in sifting through this thread and pulling out locations that have been identified and compiling a list? That was the original intent of this thread, anyway. I'm not sure how often the VCDL list is updated, but if it's like much of their website, it hasn't been updated for quite some time.
