Anyone that can, tune in to local Washington News.
Chaos. A perfect example of how ridiculous any idea of "emergency Planning" or evacuation routes for a modern urban area truly are. :sos:

There are many lessons to be learned from this "non-event" and how it will affect our SHTF planning.

Did I mention that there is a hurricane headed this way too?.

Time to stock up on those .300 Win Mag clips, or something

I think the first lesson is not to worry at all, because when the SHTF we are going to be more concerned with trying to get on Facebook above all else.

I had no problem with Facebook today, btw. Making phone calls was a little bit more difficult, but the interweb and TV were fine.

My nightmare situation would be getting disconnected from the NYSE in the middle of trading. :machinegun:

I work at that funny five sized building on the south side of the potomac river. The building shook pretty good and we had several water mains bust and flooded a couple of floors.

You know, I'm the only one in Williamsburg that didn't feel a damn thing. Apparently, my sister in Newport News was also oblivious. I'm pretty annoyed, as this is the most exciting thing that's happened around here in years. It started and ended within the 5 minutes it took me to drive to work.

I was eating lunch at a marina in Smith Mtn Lake and felt for about 5 seconds. First one I have ever felt and it got my attention.

They evacuated the buildings, I just shook my head, called my boss, and asked him is it time to "Hit the fallback site."

Come to find out? The fallback site was 1.2 miles from the epicenter...

D'oh! HAHAHAH

Or I as I was kidding with some co-workers "TEOTWAWKI MUTHAFRAKAS! TEOTWAWKI!"

Definitely felt it in Norfolk. I thought it was a jet flying over for a second, but the amplitude of the vibrations convinced me otherwise. I had felt earthquakes before while living in CA, and this was pretty similar. The stuff I've heard about dogs having a "sixth sense" for these things is apparently false, or else I have defective dogs. My kids were home at the time and said that both dogs slept through the whole thing.

According to my mom, our dogs were freaking out about 30 seconds before the shaking started.

According to me... my co-workers were freaking out 30 seconds after the shaking stopped.

Then they grew hostile "WHY DIDN'T YOU DIVE UNDER THE DESK!?!"

I paraphrased a quote from "Major League"- The Coach "Ah'm too old to go divin' under desk."

President Obama has just confirmed that the DC earthquake occurred on a rare and obscure fault-line, apparently known as "Bush's Fault". Obama also announced that the Secret Service and Maxine Waters continue an investigation of the quake's suspicious ties to the Tea Party. Conservatives however have proven that it was caused by the founding fathers rolling over in their graves.

Funny, I thought evacuating the pentagon was the only efficient thing we did...because NOBODY wants to be there! :hysterical:
