And yet we taxpayers will have to pay this tools $37,000 a year pension when he can get it at 50 something,,, who really got screwed here??? These reps should get Social Security like the rest of us... Let's see how insolvent SS would be then..

It actually depends on what retirement system they fall under...since he's only been in about 10 years its FERS and he gets a reduced annuity plus social security when he's eligible. Not that I would defend any of these twits for a micro-second but their retirement plan is the same as all other federal employees.

Seeing they are elected and not actually hired I don;t look at them as employees...Monumenatal wastes of space and air...yes But They should be citizen representatives as the Constitutuion meant and not stay 20 + years while collecting the bennies that they do..... Term limits would really help that issue

Agree and I dont think there should be any benefits for them either. This is supposed to be part time. I think it should be sort of like jury duty. You get your turn, undergo checks to make sure you meet the basic quals, and you serve your time. Meanwhile your regular employer is required by law to let you keep your job.

Absolutely the way it should be... Just think of no Pelosis', Kerrys', Feinsteins' , Lautenbergs' and various other social degenerates that think they $hit ice cream in DC...After the organized cluster &%$# that is DC now , it would be like a brandy new country with a more common man type of representation

Our founders meant for congressmen to be common folk anyways not twits with gobs of money and status....

yeah I know, its just irksome seeing Dems from NY singled out for (sex) scandals when I get drag up a boatload of "good moral folk" doing worse.

One of the few things I would agree with many on here is the need for a return to the "citizen-statesmen", career politicians have a serious entitlement mentality and start acting like feudal lords after their second term.

When I moved here I was shocked to learn VA is the only state to limit the office of governor to one term, and I think its brilliant and should be copied in more offices and state/federal positions.
