My reasons for carrying concealed are more practical and less about being an activist. Don't get me wrong, I applaud those that feel inclined to be a gun owner and an activist. However, I also believe that many individuals with too little experience put themselves into situations that they are ill equipped to handle.

Just make sure that you can live with the decisions that you make for yourself. And the impact those decisions will have on those around you.

Remember, someone out there loves you. Don't ask me why.

When I OC I am on my best behavior. I probably should be like that all the time, but I am a rambunctious SOB at heart. I OC less often when I am poorly dressed, filthier than usual, grumpy, or not in the mood to be an ambassador of the armed. I try to be especially polite and helpful when I OC. This helps curious sheeple with their invariably ignorant questions be encouraged enough to request enlightenment. Sarcasm is but one of the many services I provide!

Firearms do indeed make for a more polite society, both personally and in the people I meet. Some assume I'm a cop and some just give me a wide berth or act generally less shiftless. I like all of those side effects!

I feel that every time someone encounters someone exercising the most scary of the civil rights and they have a neutral or positive experience, this is a form of passive activism. I much prefer it to the smelly hippy forms of activism like breaking crap in my town and leaving a mess or shrieking into cameras uninvited at public events.

Mainly, I OC for comfort. I don't want to wear a cover garment here in the hot south because I am both genetically and physically conditioned a cold weather yankee. I barely wear any clothes at home, and I consider pants or a shirt a concession to common decency when I go out. You are welcome!

 I am in 100% agreement! My rule is to always be armed--ideally with a .45. If a firearm is not permitted carry a knife and pepper spray. If that is not ok keep an innocuous throwable projectile around (a baseball or softball is my choice or even a can of soda) if you can keep it in a long sock--even better, if that is even off limits heck even a sharp pen can do some damage. My children and I are worth it!

On this story itself there are a-lot of stories floating around--one that she did take out her gun (a big no no) in the presence of the children. One that she didn't and only one child is saying that they saw the "trigger." I find it rather odd that she was denied bond for a couple of misdemeanor charges. She did not act wisely on that second day, when she showed up and blocked in the bus and started yelling. But locking her up for 3 weeks for a bit of bad behavior? Really? Perhaps there are extenuating circumstances to keeping her in jail that I am not aware of. I bet you one thing, those kids are going to leave her daughter alone now.

I don't have the linky, but today's RTD has the "rest of the story!"
To say Ms. Shaquita has "issues" would be putting it mildly...

Here it is:
http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/news ... r-1051689/
A Chesterfield County mother facing charges of brandishing a pistol in front of students at a county bus stop this week "has a long history of alleged anti-social and violent behavior" in Richmond, a top city prosecutor disclosed Thursday.

Just throwing this out there, but it could be that the Prosecutor is playing the media card. It is quite possible that a good Defense attorney would be able to make a case that the previous complaints would be prejudicial (Since the prosecutor's office has not been able to get anything to stick and has ended up dropping the previous complaints) to the defendant and seek to prevent the Prosecutor from presenting that in the case. If he throws it out now to the media, the likelihood of at least one juror having seen the article is high and he gets it in that way.
In the alleged brandishing incident in Richmond involving students, the mother of the alleged victims said in a sworn statement to a city magistrate that Reed shot a gun at her children on May 18, 2010, while they were "on the porch," court documents say.
And
"So she jumped out of a vehicle with a knife and a bat," the prosecutor said. "And there also was a gun involved because some witnesses indicated a weapon was discharged several times."
I do think it is telling what kind of job the prosecutors are doing or what kind of witnesses they are getting if they can't make a smoking gun stick to the woman. I'm not saying she shouldn't be locked up, but from the supposed number of incidents this woman has been involved in you would think something would stick if any of it was real. :tinfoil:

Edit: Also I am not a lawyer, I just like to play one on tv

I am reserving judgement on this one till later. Too much stuff all at once coming out. Is it possible that she really is quite unhinged and needs a break from society, it is also possible that since none of the other charges stuck that the DA is using the media. It would not have been the first time something like that happened. Like I said--I don't know--I guess that is what they trial will be for to figure out what really happened.

Safe to say though that it is never wise to OC and then get into a confrontation especially when children are involved. It just never turns out good, she might avoid the rap, but she is getting quite a ride. It is best to if at all possible look and act like an off-duty cop when OCing.
