As a retired Det. Sergeant I have the right to carry in any state in the country as long as I have my retired I.D. card.

While I'm sure you would most likely be ok in MD, good luck trying it in DC...

What Bill is saying is that we all need to incorporate our own town, all become LEOs of that town, and then be covered under HR 218.

Yep and under HR218 you must have 15 years honerable service without any mental defect or full retirement like me after 25 years(altho the mental part I am not sure about in my case)To be able to carry in any state including the great state or is that district of D.C.

I was talking to a DC Officer who actually (in my presence) called and checked with his superiors on guns in DC.

IN DC, as per federal law, you are allowed to have an unloaded gun in the trunk of your car AS YOU DRIVE THROUGH. You cannot stop inside DC. HOWEVER I would not risk it. Just avoid DC altogether.

yep, Sgt Bill forgets that retired LEOs are NOT the type of people most of us are.

DC is nuts---as bad as NJ/NY. When we have to go and visit relatives in that areas (Christmas/Thanksgiving) we leave our guns at home. It is just not worth the risk. Take a hammer and a baseball bat in your car, and keep a small pocket knife in your pants--still deadly, but allowable, and it won't get you a weapons charge.

D.C cops can be asses sometimes
back in the late 80s i was attending a L.E. Class in Northern VA. and one night another officer and I decided to go to Georgetown ( I was from Springfield area and he was from Woodbridge originally, we were both with a Tidewater L.E. agency)
Anyway we were both "Carrying" and someone s gun must have "printed" and we were stopped by 2 DC Vice Cops who after putting us on the wall and taking our weapons while we were identifying ourselves as L.E.O.s they proceeded to "Bust our Balls" and acted like they were gonna Book us.
well when they called for transport a Sgt. showed up and His Cooler head prevailed.
The Sgt. took us back to our car ,handed us back our weapons and ammo (separately), and told us to get in our car and "get our asses back across the Key Bridge", which we did ASAP.
as L.E.O.s we were always armed and did not even think about it when we crossed the bridge into D.C.

The District of Columbia WAS, originally a square 10 miles on a side (100 square miles) until the part to the south and west of the Potomac was returned to Virginia by Congress in 1846.
The current area of DC is 68.3 square miles.

From what I've read, bringing any non-regulated firearm into Maryland is okay. And since you are in Cheese-a-Peak, you can use the bay bridge and avoid DC altogether.
