My guess is alot of that 2000 number is in Chicago, LA, and NYC...we all knew this was going to eventually come up. My guess is this will not be going away anytime soon and was merely something to float it out and see what happens. I dont hear an uproar from congress or anywhere else. My guess is we wont except for hard core gun owners like us. My guess is also that we are going to see some kind of "sensible" legislation drafted in the near future.

It wont pass a republican controlled house you say? It will if republicans think it nets them any political capital or votes...

I think he realized that this would be a no win situation if he approached it any other way. If he comes out for gun control he risks alienating "moderates," but if he doesn't do something he upsets his base. This is the safe strategy. He used the previous Congress to ram through much bigger issues and now he is safe to support a "reasonable" gun bill that he can blame on the Republicans if it doesn't pass.

It's the same old thing. "We tried, but there are too many of the other guys in office to get it done!"

@Garret, yes but there are conservatives (RINOs) supporting so called sensible controls too...it will be interesting to see how far they try to push this. My guess is they will try to trot out Giffords but I'm betting she wont play...

I imagine they are doing it for the same reason. Republican does not mean pro-gun. Statistically being republican is more likely to at least not be anti-gun. Those RINOs are hoping for the chance to support the bill without taking the actual heat for such a bill. The only people who will care that it was proposed are people like us, the average voter would only care if it somehow passed. Of course we must fight this like it could pass as you just never know.

I would be interested in a poll to see how many people were for "sensible controls" in the wake of recent shootings. Most folks arent like us and dont realize there are already numerous "sensible" controls and I would bet most would agree on a ban of high cap magazines...

Most non-gun owners are unaware of the many egregious laws already in place.

I would like to see Barry go after ATF for implementing that failed tactic of allowing guns to "walk" (into Mexico) one of which was used in the killing of a Border Patrol officer. A senior federal agent claimed recently that he was ordered to sit by an watch this tactic happen. Those who ordered this tactic should be held accountable and fired from their jobs. But then again this makes too much sense for those who are in Washington, doesn't it? I also am not expecting any more follow up news on this from the (liberal) media.

If it werent for the fact that a US agent doing his assigned job was killed due to this your statement or even your wondering aloud the things you did would be laughable. Since this little secret was made know a few days ago and we havent heard about it on the lame stream media is a sure sign that we wont...ever.

If the left and right were running a foot race right now I'd have to say the left is out front winning...they have the schools (K-12 and universities), the media, a growing leftist immigrant population, and a growing welfare population. Moreover they are establishing synergies between these things and using them together thereby increasing the overall effectiveness. If these trends continue in the same direction then they may indeed cross the finish line first. The republicans control the house and may gain the senate next election and the white house but how long will they hold it. That will be a function of how well they keep a controlling majority of voters happy. Not an easy thing to do given the current trends unless someone finds a country full of right-wingers willing to start coming here quickly. The alternative is for us to start making babies quicker than the mexicans and raisin em up right...so, there's the homework assignment...GET BUSY...

One thing that sucks is we can just about count on our two Obama lovers to vote with him on any of HIS propsed agenda items.. If it gets suggested by another Senator not so much but still reason to be wary. I got an answer from Mr Warner this AM regarding the Travor nomination to BATFE and in his political double talk pretty much said he supports installing the gun hater as head of BATFE.
Anytime he has answered in that fashion he has sided with Obama.

A quote from Mr Warner. "Article II, Section 2 of the United States Constitution provides that the President "shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint...Officers of the United States...." As a former Chief Executive, I respect the constitutional authority and prerogative of the President, regardless of party, to select nominees for the executive branch who he believes will best serve the interest of the American people. I also take very seriously the Senate's constitutional duty to render advice and consent on Presidential nominations".

Ten years from now when you suggest that the ATF might be "running guns again," you'll get :tinfoil: for the suggestion. Of course, most of the small outlets that ran the story will have dropped it (they don't keep everything online forever), the CBS report will go missing and the ATF apologists will still be claiming they can do no evil.

Nothing ever changes, eh?

So far, my 4 y/o GIRL:
makes ammunition (and beer)
says "Obama Sucks!" everytime she gazes upon his visage
tells me she wants her own boom boom (firearm)
tells anyone Daddy keeps her safe. If anyone tries to hurt her, I will shoot them with my boom boom. (that will take some gettin' around to, but yes, eventually, I will do just that)

How'ma durrin'?

Here is another twist in the story ...Seems the anti gunners are glad Obama has opened his yap about Gun Laws but still mad because he hasn't taken or suggested anything... Duh! Standard political safe move... Start the bitchin and then let someone else make the wrong moves so they can get blamed....

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id ... _article=1

The White House said that beginning Tuesday the Justice Department will hold a series of meetings with law enforcement officials, mayors, advocates, gun-rights supporters and others to try to come up with some new policy proposals or ideas on gun safety.

"The Department of Justice is continuing this process by meeting with stakeholders on all sides of the issue, to look at ways that we can find common ground to take some commonsense measures that respect American Second Amendment rights but also deal in a commonsense way with American safety and security," presidential press secretary Jay Carney said Monday.

You;ll notice that no actual gun owners are included and I would bet their idea of a GunRights group is a Brady Bunch droid that is programmed in negative logic permanently. that dreaded word "commonsense" again! BS is more like it. The Deartment of Justice playing nice ain;t gonna happen... Mr Holder does not like guns or gun owners and given a chance he will direct his distorted view of law onto the general public in a heart beat...

Nothing good can come of this!!!

The NRA's response to these meetings.

http://www.nraila.org/pdfs/obamaletter314.pdf

\Now let's see where the White House and its misdirected aganda goes. Frankly I doubt it will be anything other than the same old song and dance and more lip service to Obamas base in its early whitewash of the subject prior to the election next year,

BOHICA...

Good to see NRA out front on this but I think their letter could have been more direct and should have avoided dinging him for being anti gun. They should have stuck with the focus of enforcing existing laws before making new ones...

and in other news the NRA is refusing to join the talks set up by the WH and DOJ...not sure what good will come out of that. Article says they will be there for one session. Damned if you do damned if you dont situation...

Well, we can all rest assured that something ridiculous will come out of this under the banner of "commonsense" .. BS in other terms , They're not gonna let the AZ shooting disaster go wasted and will throw just about anything out there to get some support. As usual we need to be ever aware of Who, What, When,Where even more so with this move. Obama,Holder and the rest of the kiddies cannot be trusted and their actions are purely politically motivated.. Gotta get that ol liberal base all worked up into a Constitutional Right taking/restricting frenzy........ Hurry 2012 so we can flush the can and lose \this joke of an administration..

Yeah I think they are working on Giffords right now and holding off pushing this harder for one of 2 reasons: (1) Giffords to fully recover or (2) Giffords has already told them she wont let them user her for political gain...my guess is the latter...

My reasoning is that they realize Giffords doesnt fully support using her and they are afraid if they push something draconian while mentioning her that she will pop up later speaking out against it...that would be funny and most likely scuttle their attempt.
