Something isn't a right if you have to ask permission to do it. By requiring a permit at all we are tacitly admitting that the right to self defense it limited to what the state determines it acceptable. The best way to reduce risk and accidents is to make people responsible for their actions. Nothing is worse than meeting some government standard and determining that is safe. Case in point, search for my speed limit/driving/bad weather rants. More regulation has made our roads less safe than those who have less because people presume that if they do X it is OK.davasmith wrote:I view most points here on vagunforum with the majority, but this is one instance I believe I'll take my side again.

Truer words never spoken nor written...too many of our so called "rights" are falling into this category and being controlled by the government...gunderwood wrote: Something isn't a right if you have to ask permission to do it. I would argue that more regulation has done nothing to improve roadway safety because drivers are worse, not regulations.gunderwood wrote:More regulation has made our roads less safe than those who have less because people presume that if they do X it is OK.
Slow drivers. Distracted drivers. Elderly drivers. Young and inexperienced drivers. Asian drivers. They all contribute to the environmental hazards we already experience on our roads and highways.

Schools are one of my big pet peeves as I drive through several in my daily commute. My favorite is watching all the little "green" hybrids and other cars with obama stickers drive through them at 50 mph not bothering to dodge kids...
