I would suggest for those of you that do not reload send Rick an e-mail about what you need and see what he can do for you. I know he beats most prices that are out there and no I don't work for him.

Sorry Rick but I did not think about those products. See I don't work for him!

+1 The hundred round value packs are cheaper because they are not a pure copper jacket. IIRC, they put a bit of brass in the jacket. Not a problem though.

Wanna really confuse an employee of Wal-Mart?

Get them the way I do. When they pull that "6 boxes a day" crap, I say "Well, the way it's written it's 6 boxes of the SAME BRAND, AND TYPE! I can get 6 boxes of 9mm, 6 boxes of .45ACP, 6 boxes of .22LR, and 6 boxes of 12 ga without restriction by store policy".

Makes their lil' wheels turn so hard, they usually say "A'ight, I'll go with that."

I buy whomever is cheapest, and before you knock Wally-World, they had Federal 9MM FMJ boxes of 50 on sale at one point for $6.99. Yes, I did not stutter. $6.99!

I bought 6 boxes, gave my girlfriend 6 boxes, and the cash for them. Yet another way around their policy. :hysterical:

I'm in NOVA. I'm in the two walmarts near me at least once a week to buy ammo (damn stuff keeps slipping out the end of the guns!) Last week one of the guys said it was a 6 box limit. I said really?, last week I bought 8 boxes and no one said a thing. So the guy says the cash register would be set to limit the purchase....and so I had them keep adding boxes. The cash register didn't limit it at 10 and since I didn't want to buy a wheel barrow that was all I wanted to carry out at the moment!
It's hit or miss and it seems to be based on whoever is working the counter and whatever mis information they are working on. Either way the purchase is not linked to me, so I can always go back for more...if they have it.

No rumor, I'm afraid. One day I actually caught the Blue Ridge folks doing just that. The guy behind the counter later confirmed that they did this regularly for some time, even after the 6-box limit (send different people in, each buys 6).

Once upon a time when ammo was scarce - not too long ago - I bought several hundred rounds of 9mm from a certain person on this very board. He was nice enough to put it in a box for me. Most likely the one it came in as everything matched up. Funny thing was the label had a Wal-mart shipping address on it...even more funny was at the time you could barely find that brand on-line much less at any Wal-mart...

So is Walmart's price better than what they get through distributors or can they just not get any? What's their markup on the ammo over Walmart?

The difference is that Wal-mart can buy in bulk, they're prices on RETAIL are sometimes LOWER than on WHOLESALE for other places!

GreenTop USED to be the low price leader when they SOLD wholesale out the back to other gunshops, and sporting goods stores, I think when Thalhimer took over, things changed enough that their prices are "Competive", but you can find better ammo deals online, and... at Wal-mart on certain types.

It's a retail thing I suppose. Overhead+product costs= Retail price.

The lower of those two produces lower prices, but you DO have some folks who GOUGE the crap outta us! Especially at GUNSHOWS!

I stopped thinking "gunshows have the best bargains!", and now think "Gun shows have a bigger variety!" The prices are OUTRAGEOUS from some dealers.

+1 The few gunshows I've been to I failed to see the bargains... evidently everyone else failed to see them too, for there was no snapping up of anything - just milling around.
