Its my understanding VA bans hunting on Sunday because many other people use the outdoors for hiking and such on Sundays and don't want to get shot by accident.

I don't hunt, so I don't care, but I don't think its a Baptist conspiracy of any kind.

And yeah, it seems its a dying sport.

That's the claim now. Rather silly, since hikers have most of the year to do whatever they do in the woods, whereas hunters have a few weeks that really works out to a few days if they work full time.

I don't hunt and don't particularly care for hunters, but someone's got to kill those damn hooved rats, and I'd rather it not be my car.

There's a facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/291807261572/

They are trying to get support all over Virginia to remove the Sunday Hunting law from the books. If you're interested in helping them, read up on their efforts and go for it!

Eh, just repeating what I read some politician said. Diomed is right though, hunters have a limited time-frame to engage in their sport, hikers have 3 out of 4 seasons for theirs.

Thanks for clarifying :) Can you provide a source for that argument? Which politician?

Saw it in the roanoke times shortly after I moved here, was the first I heard of the Sunday ban, this was around January, I think that's when the state govt debates legislation?

Sunday hunting doesn't seem to have caused a big problem with hikers in the rest of the country.

http://www.nraila.org/issues/factsheets ... &issue=021
None of these states have experienced the horror stories forecast by opponents of hunting. The states continue to have healthy wildlife populations. Hunters continue to behave in a responsible and safe manner. Church attendance remains unchanged. Landowner-hunter conflicts have not increased. In sum, Sunday hunting has had nothing but a beneficial impact on these states and the future of hunting in them.

OBTW - I'm always hunting for a good chocolate sunday. I don't shoot them though.

I just moved to Virginia last year. I've always hunted on Sundays (like about 98% of hunters). There's a lot I like about Virginia, but Sunday hunting ban is not one of them.
