Suggestions for female handguns

I, too, am a female lefty, so I understand where you're coming from. I started out with revolvers - a J-frame or an SP101 are my go-to carry revolvers. I have tried a couple of semi-autos - I have a S&W 3913LS that I carry regularly, and an XDm 4.5" that I'll carry if I ever find a holster - both in 9mm. Revolvers don't care if you're left-handed - semi-autos, you have to concern yourself with slide releases and sometimes safeties.

If you're in the NoVa area, I'd be happy to meet up with you and let you try a couple of different guns. You can always stop by Nova Armament during the week - I work weekdays until about 3pm.

Cylinder release is usually only for righty too (not to mention that cylinders swing the wrong way for a lefty), unless you aren't considering reloading for a revolver. However, if you aren't considering reloading why does the mag release or slide release matter? Safeties are are a valid concern though, but those are becoming more rare to see only for righty.

My diminutive-statured wife chose the Walther P99 with no influence from me; not even my presence or prior knowledge that she was going to buy a gun. She tried out near the whole gun shop and as was earlier advise, took what was most comfortable for her. But different strokes for different folks.

Semi-autos can jam - first thing I do is drop the mag and pull back the slide. I have to switch hands to lock the slide back with no magazine inserted - usually can't do it left-handed.

As for my revolvers' cylinder release, I can reload - just not fast. Takes a little practice.
