Got pulled the other day for traveling at a "High Rate of Speed" in VA,.I have a CHP but didn;t offer it or say anything about it,,,It was right on my hip.as always.. Cop returned with my license and registration, gave me a verbal warning and said bye!! Worked for me !!! One thing I have noticed is they use two cars on the Eastern Shore of VA,,Can't say as I blame em...It can be a desolate place at certain places and at night it is very dark. If one pulls ya there is another one right behind to back up

I got pulled over last week, and the 1st thing the LEO asked was if I had any weapons of any kind in the vehicle. While I do have my CHP, I work on a military installation and was not carrying at the time, so the answer was an easy "No, Ma'am". I would think that when asked directly, if I was carrying, I would answer affirmative, and produce the CHP if/when the LEO said it was OK to. Seems as if I lied, and the weapon came to light, <even if permitted> things would spiral downhill very quickly.

It is an opening question designed to allow them to probe into areas they originally could not. It is the same reason they ask where you were going, etc. If it has nothing to do with the stop, then in theory you can politely refuse to answer on the grounds it isn't relevant. If you get pulled over for speeding and the officer asks what color underwear you are wearing, you rightfully would be like WTF? No difference here.

It is an interrogation technique which they are trained to use.

I was pulled over a few years ago by officer that was new while on my motorcycle. I informed him I was carrying a legally concealed weapon. He went instantly to Defcon 6. You would have thought I was a mass murderer. I will never volunteer that info again.

Agree with the thought, but Defcon 6 not only doesn't exist it would be less than 5 which is the lowest state of readiness defined by that system. 1 is the highest, 5 the lowest.

I've not been pulled over since getting my CHP, but given how I usually carry, I will probably offer my license and CHP to the officer prior to reaching for the car registration. I've tried it, and it's not possible for me to keep the jacket from riding up when I reach for the glove box. Last thing I want is for Little Miss Springfield to surprise the officer when I go for the paperwork...

Out of common courtesy I supply my CHP with my DL/Registration. I've never had any issues from LEOs when I give them a heads up. IMO, I've been treated with more respect since I got my CHP, though it may be the receding hairline and slower cars.

I was stopped the other day...well I was already stopped...on the entrance ramp for HOV 395 S at 5:56 PM waiting to go along with several other cars. They storm trooped us and I sat there for 30 minutes while 2 state police gathered licenses and wrote tickets. Guy never mentioned a gun or CHP and I didnt offer. Moral of the story is either my name wasnt flagged, he didnt notice, or didnt care...AND it cost me $91 which by that time the HOV was backed up...next time I'll time it better out of the parking lot...

Ah, you're one of those people!

I only do it if its within 5 or 6 minutes of 6PM...which for me is rarely...I either get there a little too early or late by which time both runs are backed up...And, I honestly never noticed the signs until he pointed them out...there are only about a dozen of them...along the right hand side...

You were wrong DK in going onto the HOV before you were allowed to. Where can that make them Storm Troopers for doing their job.

I wasnt on the HOV or the ramp...merely sitting in a median strip along with several other cars...someone like me eager to get home merely assumes thats what the strip is for until that nice young man pointed out all them signs...and believe it or not I honestly didnt notice them until he frowned and pointed...

Sorry but you did not explane it in your first post or if you did I did not understand it. It still did not make them Storm Trooper's for doing their job did it?

No prob, but I didnt call them storm troopers...I said they storm trooped us...meaning they sped in, sirens/lights, slammed open doors and strode to vehicles with hand on gun butts...peering around through slitted eyes with teeth barred they descended upon the cringing drivers who sat huddled, cold, hungry, and wet in their dilapidated vehicles...
