Hmm...yeah, you got me on that, too...we probably oughta consult new House Minority Leader Pelosi on that one...if she'd even bother responding to us "mere citizens".

Not sure where you are getting this data, but my stuff comes from the FBI. They collect shooting data on all LEO shootings. And this data is more horrible then yours. Cops have a 17 % success rate in their shooting encounters. Don't think FBI compiles civilian shooting data, but I may be wrong. I have a pain in my butt trying to get more training for my deputies and have an on going battle with supervision. The commonly quoted ratio is 30% of shots are good hits. 70% are misses or poor hits (i.e. nicks or trivial wounds). The average number of shots fired for one assailant to stop the attack is approximately the total capacity of a revolver. The average number of shots for multiple assailants is much more. I don't recall the numbers exactly, but you get the gist.
Now as to the .327 mag. One of my off duty carry guns is a Ruger LCR in .357 mag. I am using Golden Sabre rounds. This is the round my department uses for our duty guns, H&K USP 40. I find no reason to switch, but the .327 is a developing a good rep in performance. My friends who have a gun in this caliber are always complaining about the lack of ammo! Even supplies for reloaders is getting hard to get.

Re: .327 Federal Magnum
You're right about the FBI stats. I don't recall who came up with the 30/70 approx. for civilian SD (read it somewhere), but I'd guess that it was being generous and/or suggesting that for civilian SD the engagement ranges are likely much shorter on average, which should yield more hits in theory. I.e. in a bad situation a civilian looks to leave the area and fights only when that isn't possible. LE is different.Lawfullarry wrote:Not sure where you are getting this data, but my stuff comes from the FBI. They collect shooting data on all LEO shootings. Re: .327 Federal Magnum
I take it they don't want to shoot lead bullets in their reloads? If they can't find the .327, can they find the .32 Magnum, or the .32 Long/Short? A lot of the people who were worried about the .327 ammo supply didn't even think about the shorter cartridges it was based on. Just a suggestion.Lawfullarry wrote:Now as to the .327 mag. So, I picked up a .327 SP101 - and promptly have to ship it back. One of the chambers in the cylinder has imperfections in it, and it's sticking - a nice long streak on the sides (almost exactly 180 degrees apart) of the fired cartridge case. I didn't see it after the first 6 through it, but after tapping it out and dropping 6 more in, and seeing the 2nd case after firing the next 6, I found it. Called 'em, and back it goes. Not exactly happy about that, but I hear that it happens from time to time...
