Chris, I do believe that I qualify as an old salt. Concider that I hit Parris Island on Sept. 11th. 1963 yes I said 1963 that would be 48 year's ago.As far as keep shooting untill there is no movement left, ain't that what you are supposed to do. A t least that is what I have taught people for the last 40 years or so.

I might be getting in on this late but I share the same views.
Always shoot to kill, shooting to wound only gets you killed in the end.
Always shoot to hit vital regions, a faster kill might save your life.
Always keep shooting until the aggressor stops, this is what will save your life.
Always make a head shot if the aggressor keeps coming after most of your ammo, this means he has a vest and you don't and will kill you!
These are the rules ground into me by my friends in the service and law enforcement. Even my concealed carry firearms instructor said, "keep firing until the threat stops!" He never said to worry about anything. He only said, "State you were in fear of your life and that you will state no more until you have your lawyer present."
I carry my lawyer's number for that reason. {He isn't on contract but has done SDS cases in my area and won when needed.}
Just some other things for thought.
One thing my service and LEO friends have taught me, never leave your gun empty after firing, even if you use all the rounds in a mag and see no other aggressors. One could always be present somewhere. So I always practice reloading at the range and dry at home.
Both types of my friends have stressed that shot placement over size of the round work every time. They also tell me to carry what I can shoot accurately and not something I cannot control or will leave me without the ability to fire more with that weapon. {Being disabled leaves me without being able to fire big calibers and most all rifles. The FN 57, however people might judge it, has been a God send to me and probably many other disabled people out there.}
