Since this is my thread I am still allowed to bump it.
I just got a Glock 17 and wanted to know what sort of grease you guys like to use on them. A few sources have said Gun Butter. But I went to Amazon and saw about 40 different greases and was wondering what people have good experience with.

I like Weapons Shield, but only because it smells the best to me - like cinnamon.

Well I will tell you that I have cleaned all of my weapons and many more with WD-40 and then followed that cleaning up with a good dose of G-96 lube on all surfaces and NEVER have any rust problems.

I use plastilube on mine.

I've used a variety of greases and can't say I've seen any real difference in performance. That's especially true of anything not uber tight. Greased is best used for high loads and shearing forces of which there aren't that many. The slide/frame on a handgun, but most of those are fairly loose. The barrel/slide on a handgun, but that's not generally tight either, but it is high temp. Rifle bolts on some semi-autos are probably the hardest on the grease. I have a slight preference for lithium based greases on tight firearms, but any name brand grease is probably sufficient for nearly everything else. IMHO, grease selection really only becomes an issue when you start talking about extreme cold/heat situations.

Hi, new here but wanted to state this.

FN states in the 57 and PS90 manual that you should only use CLP on these firearms. I don't really see the reasoning in this except for the composite pieces on the weapons.

I have used CLP on them both now but really don't like the way the CLP cleaned the barrel or chamber since it was really hard to get the brass out of the chamber in one place and the copper from the bore.

I ran two patches with M-Pro 7 on them and it was finally cleaned to my spotless satisfaction. Plus the CLP I used from OTIS was good stuff but smelled some and I didn't like that about it.

For oil or lubes, I use either Otis Dry Lube or Snake Oil.

I'm not sure what is really right for cleaning any pistol or rifle or otherwise, but I think it might just be what is safest for both the weapon and the user in the end.

Getting copper out is a bitch for most cleaners... I;ve used Sweets http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?p ... ber=643582 on my .44 magnum and it cleans that nasty stuff out excellently... One thing though is it has a smell that will blister the inside of your nose if inhaled deeply... But it will take the copper out without a problem
