Re: Your concealed carry permit
No raised seal on mine either, and no color. Just black & white text on el cheapo business card stock. I could copy and reprint this puppy all day.
Re: Your concealed carry permit
Just realized the perforations give my original away. No raised seal though. Duplicable if one is slightly motivated.

Arlington won't laminate it for you, but there's a Kinkos across the street. The person at the courthouse pointed them out for me. I didn't laminate my old one and it did not wear well in my wallet, which is where I always carry it.
The clerk signed the permit in blue ink, which may or may not copy well depending on your copier. No raised anything on it, but you can see the perforations with a magnifier.

Re: Your concealed carry permit
I dont think raised seal orcopy has anything to do with it. All they have to do is call it in. The only issue with this is if its brand spanking new it might not be in the database...
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: Your concealed carry permit
That's one more reason why I like the Texas permit...it's hard plastic just lice a DL with photo and everything.
Re: Your concealed carry permit
Florida has a nice one as well.

What's the benefit of a nice card? It just costs more to make IMO. When my friend saw it and commented, I told him I was glad they weren't spending money on a nice card, given that the first thing done when handed to an officer is an electronic check.

The plain paper is susceptible to damage far more easily than a more modern credit-card/driver's license-style card is. I had a dealer doodle on mine before I got it laminated.t33j wrote:What's the benefit of a nice card? It just costs more to make IMO. I think the Pennsylvania system is fairly good at handling this. There's the state-mandated paper license issued at state-mandated cost, and then local jurisdictions can offer a nicer, more durable version at a higher cost if the applicant wants it. It's a decent compromise.

Re: Your concealed carry permit
Some have raised seal...some do not....and yet:
How can the seal be optional?Va Code 18.2-308(H) wrote:
H. The permit to carry a concealed handgun shall specify only the following information: name, address, date of birth, gender, height, weight, color of hair, color of eyes, and signature of the permittee; the signature of the judge issuing the permit, of the clerk of court who has been authorized to sign such permits by the issuing judge, or of the clerk of court who has been authorized to issue such permits pursuant to subsection D; the date of issuance; and the expiration date. The permit to carry a concealed handgun shall be no larger than two inches wide by three and one-fourth inches long and shall be of a uniform style prescribed by the Department of State Police. The person issued the permit shall have such permit on his person at all times during which he is carrying a concealed handgun and shall display the permit and a photo-identification issued by a government agency of the Commonwealth or by the United States Department of Defense or United States State Department (passport) upon demand by a law-enforcement officer.
The thing with this is there absolutely nothing in PA law that allows for this increased fee "option". By the end of this year they will all have switched to a "teslin" style...and all sheriffs must charge the state mandated fee. Downside to this switch, is that non-resident applicants will have to apply in person.Diomed wrote:t33j wrote:

I may have the raised seal, but after lamination it is difficult to see. Yet, if you look at the back of the chp then you can see the indentation of the seal.
I also see little benefit in a 'nicer' card (+1 it probably just adds to the cost). Again, if you need to explain to LEO that you have chp, they could always run it. BTW you have to show your drivers license or state ID which should ensure your identification. So, I like the relatively inexpensive cost and the way the laws are moving (in favor of pro-gun) in VA.

I'd prefer no extra ID at all. I don't have a separate motorcycle license, I just have a little "M" on the current one. Of course, I'd perfer over that Constitutional Carrry.baz wrote:I may have the raised seal, but after lamination it is difficult to see. Re: Your concealed carry permit
The benefit of nice card from Texas is that I, as a TX CHL holder, can skip the NICS check when buying there. Texas permitting process is approved by ATF to satisfy the NICS requirements (http://www.atf.gov/publications/downloa ... _chart.pdf) So pick out a gun, fill out a 4473, make a copy of CHL card, pay some money, out the door with gun in hand. No waiting for NICS call-in and approval.
Re: Your concealed carry permit
Even so, you'd still have to deal with the VSP check here

Re: Your concealed carry permit
no they can't. state law is $25 for the ltcf, any charge over that is illegal.Diomed wrote:

Re: Your concealed carry permit
My understanding is that they charge the mandated amount for the mandated LTCF, thus complying with the law. If the applicant wants a nicer one (credit card style) they have the option of paying more.cigarmanva wrote:no they can't. state law is $25 for the ltcf, any charge over that is illegal.Diomed wrote:

Re: Your concealed carry permit
The issue is that the license must be uniform as designed by the PSP. Any alternate version of the license is not allowed by law, as such an increased fee for an unapproved version can not be legal.Diomed wrote:My understanding is that they charge the mandated amount for the mandated LTCF, thus complying with the law. Mine has the Seal of Virginia on the back, but it's not raised.

Scanned it as an image, first, very high resolution. Then laminated - Staples did it for me for the cost of the film.
