Where does it say no carry within 1000' of public school? Even with or without CHP, I don't see anything like that.

It is the Federal law that defines the so called "Gun Free School Zones". This is defined as 1000 feet from school property. If you have a CHP/CCW/etc from THE STATE THE SCHOOL is in you are exempt from this and state law applies. At this point in VA, you have to remain in your car while you are in the school parking lot.

I think it's probably safe to say it is not enforced here. From as far as anyone I know can tell, it has never been enforced by itself. It tends to be added on when another crime is committed within a school CPZ. Myself (before I knew about it) and others have OCed on sidewalks right next to schools without issue. You needn't have a CHP in your possession to carry within 1000'. It only needs to have been issued.

The previous version of the reg was ruled unconstitutional by SCOTUS. This one has yet to be tested.
