Mindflayer - +1 win for the old D&D monster name...

Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.
Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

Nova Armament is the best Gun shop in Northern Virginia, I could have spent $5k today but my budget only allowed $50.00. How many shops have a FN SCAR and 2 LMT complete lowers, and 3? New Springfield M1's just hanging out; not to mention the EOTech and Aimpoint sights, Magpul accessories and mags (both 556 and 762!), DPMS LPKs and rock River LPKs and 2 stage triggers all at good prices.
These guys are the best, Nova Armament has a great selection of fun guns
with good prices, and a even better selection of accessories at fair price. I saw a M1 for $750.00 in the consignment section, but didnt have time to take a close look at it.
Nova Armament is the shop of choice for all my purchases and transfers (3 already), and I highly recommend this shop to anyone who appreciates great service and fair prices.

Re: NOVA Armament - Herndon, VA - Review
Just bought handgun #2 there. As the first time, they were friendly and more than happy to help a firearm newbie. I think I tried every subcompact and compact firearm in there twice. My only complaint is Wei showing me more goodies (Aimpoint for the Ruger SR-556) when I am trying to stick to a shared camera/electronics budget.
I've heard a lot of people complain about the prices at the local gunshops in Northern VA. I believe you need to reconsider:
* Base price of a handgun is cheaper on Gunbroker.com.
* You usually have to pay 3% credit card fee. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't like the idea of sending a cashier's check or money order to just any business.
* Shipping is usually $30, and then you tack on another $25 to $35 for the FFL handling fee.
At that point, you rapidly approach the local gunshop's price. Now consider the value of having a local shop where you can ask questions, meet like-minded people, and actually handle the firearm you might buy, and there's your value.
Probably preaching to the choir, but I built scale models for a while, and the online stores crushed a lot of the small local stores. I hated seeing those social gathering places disappear.

Yeah, I know what you mean. We used to have The Hobby Shop here in Richmond - had been around in one location or another since the '60s. My dad used to buy models there, and so did I. Of course, he blew most of his up, but anyway, it was a nice place to actually see the product. And pick up all the requisite supplies.Mindflayer wrote:Probably preaching to the choir, but I built scale models for a while, and the online stores crushed a lot of the small local stores. Unfortunately it could not in any way compete with the internet in terms of price or selection, and a lot of the staff were pretty marginal on customer service. Sound familiar? But while the Hobby Shop folded, gun shops stagger on, since they have a legal monopoly.

When you spend your money at a local store, your money stays in the community; it is always best to keep your money as close to you as possible.Mindflayer wrote: At that point, you rapidly approach the local gunshop's price. I generally only buy stuff from online stores which I cannot find locally OR I would have to buy from a big box store.

I bought a Gen 4 Glock 19 from NOVA Armament in Herndon yesterday. They are nice folks to deal with and my purchase was handled quickly and efficiently. I appreciated this as I had a lot to do yesterday and little time to get it all done. I'll be a returning customer for sure. Today, I had a chance to function check the new pistol with various bullet weights and brands of ammo. It worked flawlessly. I also like the Gen 4 Glock 19's grip -- more textured (stippled) than the Gen 2 or 3 but not so much that it chews up your hand.
Competition is one of the "great levelers" of ego.

I was there today. They have some good prices on pistols. If anybody is interested in a Ruger SR9c, they've got the lowest price I've seen anywhere.
There was also a tempting Sig 556 SWAT on consignment.

I've been going to NOVA Armament for since they opened and I now consider them to be the best shop in Northern Virginia. They have an incredible selection of military rifles as well as consignment firearms. I've probably spent over $5k there over the past 6 months. They also have very low transfer and consignment fees (I frankly think they are too low!).
The gang over there is great. When I have time, I like to hang out and talk guns with them (I never thought that I would have the opportunity to hang out at a gun shop!). The shop is definitely worth taking the time to visit (again, their prices are very low!).

Re: NOVA Armament - Herndon, VA - Review
I had to go into work today to fix a problem. On the way out I-66 I saw that the traffic in-bound was stacked up. So on the way back, I decided to swing up 28 and take the toll-road back in. Of course, I'd be a fool not to stop by NOVA Armament since I was in the area.
Long story short, I'm now a member of the AR-15 club. Every time I've been in their store I've seen a good deals but never acted upon it because I hate buying high priced items on a whim. But they showed me a used but never fired Wilson Combat AR-15 for a really, really good price. I couldn't pass it up.
Great guys (and gal) in there. They are always very friendly, and not at all pushy. Once I pulled the trigger on the purchase, I was checked out in no time. Probably the fastest it has ever taken me to purchase a firearm.

+1 for NOVA Armament. Did a FFL transfer there today, and they were very efficient. They also have the lowest price for that service I have seen, and you get the 6th one free!
Re: NOVA Armament - Herndon, VA - Review
I did my very first FFL transfer there a couple months ago and I'm very happy with the service. I usually buy my stuff at gun shows but next time I'll make sure to give NOVA Armament my business.

Just wanted to add my endorsement of NOVA Armament. While the shop is small, the people there are friendly and the FFL transfer price can NOT be beat! The best thing is that they're extremely close to me as well.
Re: NOVA Armament - Herndon, VA - Review
Add one more happy customer for NOVA Armament. Picked up a lower receiver there yesterday...great customer service and friendly people.
Re: NOVA Armament - Herndon, VA - Review
I needed someone to receive an FFL transfer last week. I first called Blue Ridge Arsenal. They wanted me to come into the shop, fill out a form, and charge $52. Instead I went to Nova. Convenient online form and $25. Deal was done quickly and efficiently. The folks were nice, pleasant and helpful. The store itself is also pretty nice with a good selection of new and used, handguns and longguns. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was the ammo selection. It was pretty weak, just a few boxes each of the basic stuff.
