Welcome to the forum. I think you will find VA very gun friendly compared to where you are coming from. The general assembly is in the process of making it even more so as we speak. There are some great people here and plenty of help with getting used to the gun owners lay of the land.

Of course, there's a good variety of shops in the area and you can transfer 'em in if you find a great deal somewhere else...

Do remember that if you go to an establishment that served alcohol for on-premises consumption, you MUST carry openly (or not at all). At least, until we get that restaurant ban lifted (soon, we all hope). And sometimes, the damnedest places have that license - grocrey stores, fast food...

I can't say it will be good but there is a gun show in Lynchburg on Feb 20, 21.

Massachusetts prohibits you to purchase a gun from online without contact with an FFL. However, with all the laws and such in Mass, most people wont even ship to the state. If I were to purchase a firearm on lets say, gunsamerica.com can I have it shipped directly to my address, or do I have to have it shipped to an FFL?

Just sold my Walther and Im interested in a Glock 26....they're much cheaper online! Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure on long guns (which I think can be shipped by anyone, but must go to an FFL), but I know that handguns have to be shipped by an FFL to an FFL due to Postal Service regulations. That's a Fed thing, not a State thing.

It will need to be shipped to an FFL and you will have to go pick it up, fill out paperwork and get backgrounded.

Interstate firearms sales all have to go through an FFL under federal law.

Now, a face-to-face personal sale between two Virginia residents, within Virginia - no need for an FFL in that case.

FTF private transactions in VA is essentially ungoverned. The problem with that is it places the burden of responsibility on you to make sure you engage in a legal transaction. Otherwise you face the possibility of getting caught up something like a bloomberg sting...

We recommend if you engage in private transactions to try and "mimic" what would happen in a regular gun store. That is, ask for and check ID and ask a couple of simple questions. Are you a felon? Can you legally posses this weapon under VA law? A bill of sale with remarks and answers is also highly recommended. I've found that everyone I've dealt with privately has no issue with this...it protects you, them, and shows you have done due diligence by going beyond what the law calls for if the transaction is ever called into question...
