I just hailed a neighbor with a skid steer and he made a couple of passes down the driveway for me. *PHeW!* Thanks neighbor!

Not going to do me any good to shovel what little driveway I've got to do. Over two feet of snow in the street and no plow yet. Probably not for a couple of days. No way are we going to get through that mess. And nobody else has tried it yet either.

We missed most of the white stuff this time. By noon today, the sun had melted everything. But the weatherman is already talking about another storm on Tuesday.

Maybe we'll see a little of that global warming in June :hysterical:

Hey, I had to shovel almost 3 foot deep snow from my driveway. I'm hoping al gore is right and that the center of the earth is several million degrees hot. The rest will then melt as I'm siting here and so will you!!!

I shoveled yesterday and thought we were going to have trouble on my street. There were gangs of hispanics roaming with snow shovels offering to help for money of course. A couple of them became angry when I told them thanks but no. And, I understand enough spanish that one conversation between them set me off to red alert. I brought out Young and a trusted "friend" just in case. Another guy was trying to get everybody to chip in and pay the "latinos" as he called them to shovel the whole street so one car could get by - for the good of the whole neighborhood of course. He got angry too. I think he was a middle easterner. About an hour later he came down the hill in his blazer with several mexicans and shovels digging him out as he went. It was clear he was trying to get everybody to help pay so he could get down the street. I also observed several arguments and spats up and down the street. Not good.

Bottom line is it was a good lesson for me. We've only been here since October and I got a chance to meet and observe some of my neighbors. The vietnamese family across the street will be my focus to make friends with. Of all the folks I've seen so far they look like good folks to have at your back if the SHTF. And, I do remember the story of how a bunch of them protected their businesses and homes during the riots in CA - rifles from the roofs.

I'd love to Bill. Only problem is there's this pretty little gal I gotta convince. If I can do that we'll be down before you can say "shut the gate on your way out." I'm already browsing properties down that way but she dont know that...

We are struggling with 20" out here in Luray. The scraper came through my neighborhood and left a nice snow pack that conveniently froze solid overnight. Then the 7 miles of road going to town have a good snow pack on them, melted a bit yesterday in the sun then froze solid overnight. Gotta love overnight single digit temperatures.

To top it off, early Saturday morning we lost power for most of the day, but luckily I live a few houses from the Allegheny Power district supervisor and we are on his power grid, so we got our power restored rather quickly. I feel bad though because out of maybe 75-100 houses in our neighborhood, we are only 1 of maybe 10 that actually have power thanks to living close to the supervisor.. The rest of the homes in our area have been powerless since Saturday morning. Being on a community well has proven to be bad as well, the pumphouse is unfortunately not in the same grid as the supervisor, so the entire subdivision is waterless. It proves that who you know, or conveniently don't know but live near, can help you through a storm. If all that weren't fun enough, we lost phone and internet numerous times. Thank god for the iphone, it kept us connected to civilization and up to date on storm reports.

I took some gun pics to help the cabin fever, I'll get those uploaded in a bit, other than that, it's been pretty uneventful. I've gotten a hell of a workout shoveling, so thats good I suppose. Nothing like working up a nice cold sweat than not being able to shower for days.

At least we are getting another 5"+ tomorrow :hysterical:

Yikes! Sorry that happened DK! The roving bands of hispanics in my neighborhood were AWESOME! Polite and efficient. Best $45 bucks I've ever spent. :) I have a really long driveway too. I did have a tree come down across the driveway friday night though. It blocked half my street so i was out there late that night with a saw and clippers. I'm still sore from that one.

$45 to shovel a long driveway!!!!!!! They were asking minimum of $150 to do about 15 feet. I would have gladly paid $50 to let them shovel about 10 feet. It took me an hour by myself to do that today. I slammed my door on a couple more today. I'm willing to help them out but will not pay exorbitant rates for something I can do in about an hour. They need to go stand down by the local Home Depot and find an idiot for that...

Spent most of Saturday and several hours today shoveling my 200 ft driveway. I gotta get me one of those fancy snow blowers. :-) The driveway wasn't to bad, but when I got to the large pad by the garage it was a long way to the sides to sling shovelfuls of snow. Didn't see a single entrepreneurial teenager all weekend. When I was growing up I would have been all over this snow storm and earning some cash! (Okay, my wife and son pitched in a bit.)

When I was done I headed up to Stafford and shot a couple of boxes at The Range. THAT was a just reward.

Up to 20 inches expected in NOVA.... I have already cleared 14 trees from my driveway, and I think I will loose a couple more. This is going to be a long week.

Here's a slideshow of some pics I took. I live in a little subdivision of sorts. We have a common driveway that is about 1500', my total driveway is about 750', plus 4 neighbors and their driveways, so total driveway is probably half a mile. The only ones with tractors are myself and one neighbor, so we try and keep the driveways clear. I've probably already run 15+ gal of diesel through my tractor, and it's not over yet.
