My wife and I have been three times since Feb 1. Gary is the best! He takes time with you, and is very customer service oriented. We consider Top Gun, our "home range" now and are considering becoming members.

My wife and I went to the Top Gun Range for the first time last month. Larry was very helpful and brought us up to date on the rules and procedures at the range. He explained everything we needed to know to get started.

Most of our experience has been with shooting ranges up in the Washington area. Top Gun is a much more pleasant and less hectic shooting environment. The facility is well laid out and organized.

We have more recently signed up for the annual membership and have been there several times.

Larry and Gary are both very helpful and pleasant. Both are quite willing to help in answering any questions or providing other guidance if desired. We're glad we found out about Top Gun and highly recommend it.

Just a dated comment on Ashby Arms. I beg to differ. It's not "a crappy little cave" and it cost you nothing to make that comment. I have been to the "crappy little firearm caves" and Ashby Arms is nothing like that. They carry a surprising array of middle to top-of-the line firearms at very reasonable prices. I am so used to adding an automatic 30% to firearms in gun stores (vs. the net) that I was pleasantly surprised at the small markup, considering overhead and all. The staff are knowledgeable and I don't feel like I'm talking to a firearm wannabe behind the counter. It's tough life trying to run a small business and even tougher courtesy of the present administration. It pushes my buttons to make broad brush statements without at least some clarifications as to why a store might be "a crappy little cave."

I've had a good experience here. I went there after I got my CCW and my first firearm, and they were very patient, helpful, and welcoming. Rarely crowded, nice and clean, and close to Harrisonburg and the surrounding area.

I've been going to Top Gun for a few months now, and did buy a family membership. I find the staff very helpful and pleasant. Very easy to work with. On my wife's first trip and her first time shooting a handgun, the RSO gave her some really good instruction and really made her comfortable. I highly recommend this place

Top Gun closed unexpectedly today. I got a letter with a refund for the remaining months of my membership. The letter said the range was closing permanently Aug 1st (today) I'll miss the place.

Sorry to hear this - way too few ranges have any closing.

It's my understanding that this location is now re-opened under new management and a different name. Any reports?

Update: Found more info.

The range's new name is simply "The Gun Range".

The owners are the same folks that run The Gun Shack in Verona.

Yes, Top Gun has re-opened under the name The Gun Range. New backstops were installed. Rifle shooting is now allowed. I was there a week ago and it was pretty busy. Ammo supply looked pretty good as well. I believe they will sell guns there and already have a nice assortment of accessories. Glad to see they are back in business.

Guys and Girls, The Gun Range, LLC. (formally Top Gun) is indeed open again. We have replaced the backstop, repainted everything, put in a gun and accessory store and stocked up rental guns. We have a large amount of ammunition and targets. We have also changed up our staff and our training programs. Firearms Training & Solutions, LLC is now our training partner introducing a variety of concealed handgun courses, defensive handgun courses and safety programs. We are looking forward to seeing all our Virginia shooting friends and their guests when you have a chance. Memberships are available or you can pay by the hour. We look forward to meeting you soon so stop by and see us. We are at your service!

"Handgun shooters under 21 years of age and long gun shooters under 18 years of age must have parental approval and be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while on the range. Children under 12 years of age are not allowed on the range without special permission."

That's cool, I'll just not be shooting anytime soon in Harrisonburg.

The above quote is from the range rules. I get the under 18 and under 12, but why the under 21 for handguns? In VA people 18 to 20 can possess and transport handguns and handgun ammunition. So, if someone 18 to 20 brings their own handgun and ammo, why can't he use the range without having a parent or a guardian being present?

Recently spoke to FTS, a consultant for the range, about the age regs. He has spoken to the owners and said they may be flexible. Thanks again to FTS and may this encourage others to bring their business that way as they seem to be by all indications decent folk.
