It's a .50 cal upper that you can swap out - it's got a rebated rim so your regular 5.56 receiver and bolt still work.... it's been on my "Next Firearm" list for a while, for anyone who's wondered just what the heck it is.....

After poking around on some other forums, it seems that this was a .50 Beowulf conversion. If it was converted to .50 BMG, it wouldn't have been a semi-auto.

You can get an upper for a AR that is the real deal... .50BMG I was gonna get one a while back but they were around $1500.00 and is a bolt action single shot. The .50 Beuowolf is more of a CQCB round that was designed for law enforcement. But it is made in good old Virginia.

The grenade launcher is legal to own too. I saw on for sale the other day on a forum. I used to have a LAW,legal to own as long as you used the wooden traing rounds.

A Virginia man had a small arsenal of weapons - and a map of Fort Drum - in his motel room in New Jersey, according to federal authorities.

Police say they haven't turned up any links to terrorist groups by 43 year old Lloyd Woodson and his motives are a mystery.

Among items found in his motel room was a Middle Eastern red and white traditional headdress, according to The Star-Ledger, of Newark, N.J.

The weapons allegedly included guns with defaced serial numbers and banned ammunition.

Woodson's estranged wife told the Associated Press that her husband was just a loner who needs psychological counseling and that he is a gun collector.

He was arrested after his suspicious behavior drew attention at a store in Branchburg, N.J. early Monday morning.

Upon being questioned by police, Woodson ran out of the store and was found hiding in some bushes at a trailer park.

He struggled with police before being subdued and was found with a rifle inside his coat along with four illegal large-capacity ammunition magazines, according to the Star-Ledger report.

Woodson has a previous weapons conviction in New York State.

Fort Drum officials issued a statement Wednesday morning saying they'd been notified when the map was discovered in Woodson's possession, but that they feel the post is secured.

"Smooth bore 37mm projectile launcher - not a DD. Not even a title 1 firearm. This item falls under the "not a weapon" (signaling device) exception, I believe. Generally a large bore device for which no anti-personnel ammo has ever been made will NOT be a DD. This used to be true of the 37mm guns. However, according to ATF, some folks have started making anti-personnel rounds for these guns, and ATF has ruled that possession of a 37mm launcher and a bean bag or rubber shot or similar round is possession of a DD, and at that point the launcher needs to be registered. Put another way, before you make or buy anti-personnel rounds for your 37mm launcher, register it as a DD. The rounds themselves, not being explosive, incendiary or poison gas, are not regulated in themselves either. It is just the two together. See ATF Ruling 95-3."

Section 5845(f), Title 26, U.S.C., classifies certain weapons as "destructive devices" which are subject to the registration and tax provisions of the NFA. Section 5845(f)(2) provides as follows:

(f) Destructive device.--The term "destructive device" means * * *

(2) any type of weapon by whatever name known which will, or which may be readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an explosive or other propellant, the barrel or barrels of which have a bore of more than one-half inch in diameter, except a shotgun or shotgun shell which the Secretary or his delegate finds is generally recognized as particularly suitable for sporting purposes; ..."
