Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

I think it's funny, living where I do, that it would be easier for me to get to the Maryland Appleseed shoot than it would be to get to any of the Virginia shoots. I go to the Black Creek 3-Gun matches and it takes longer to go there than to Annapolis. I'll be going to one of these shoots, it's just a matter of when.

BTW, why isn't there one of these in Northern Virginia? I know the wind element is supposed to be a part of it, but the NRA range could actually host an indoor 25 meter shoot.

I would be surprised (more like shocked) if NRA acknowledged Appleseed's existence, much less allowed it to use their range.

Ask 'em about VCDL sometime. It gets pretty uncomfortable pretty quick.

That might explain why a guy wearing a VSSA hat was such a jerk to me when I was behind the VCDL booth at a gun show recently. I wasn't yet familiar with the VSSA, so I asked him what it stood for and what it meant. His utter and complete disdain was very clear. Like I said, total jerk.

Last I thought, we were all supposed to be on the same side! I would've thought that the NRA Range would be proactively seeking out and welcoming the Appleseed folks.

The thing that gets me (now) about the NRA range is they shut down on Tuesday nights for competitions. But they don't have any competitions running there anymore. ??? They advertise IDPA matches, but they have no new results since 2006?

Hahahahahaha! If you've seen how they try to claim credit for Heller and McDonald you'd know the NRA doesn't like to share the spotlight or the credit with anyone else, whether they deserve said spotlight or credit, or not.

Yeah, I think they're feeling the heat from more than one grass roots org, but in this case, both the NRA and VCDL are in VA. One is national, one is local. It's not like they're 2 small, local advocacy organizations competing for members.

I don't see why things need to be 'competitive', though. I guess it boils down to the 'us versus them' mentality that seems to continually plague this country.

Overall, I appreciate, respect, and support what the NRA does. I also appreciate, respect, and support what the VCDL does for gun owners locally. We need a voice locally and nationally.

You'd think that, but NRA's stance seems to be that it's national and local, and doesn't want anyone else at the local level working on gun issues. (The fact that in many places they're useless is left unmentioned.) They've worked to undercut VCDL in the past, and tried to claim credit for what VCDL's accomplished.

I think VCDL's been pretty gentlemanly about the whole business, leaving it with a wry comment and moving on, far more so than NRA has been.

NRA's got some serious internal issues they need to address. They don't want to though, and no one from the outside can force them to.

Is there anyone in the IWL who can host this at one of their places in NOVA? You'd think they would jump on it, but I haven't heard anything from either place. Sounds like a good fit. I'm not a member of the IWL, but if they had a member bring this up, it might happen.
