So...out weeding in the garden and thinking that war would be the only remaining manual skills job. Then I realized that desk jobs are taking over in that field. Well, that leaves terrorism...nope, that is becoming a desk job as well.

That government that dies with the most advanced computations wins.

Self driving trucks out where there is nothing to hit, and no oblivious other drivers is one thing, but a 40 ton driverless truck in rush hour Memphis traffic.... that is something else, entirely.

No doubt at all that a mining site is a much more controlled and closed environment that the open road.

But it won't stop there. At some point, the people who are pushing the driverless transportation concept will simply convince government to eliminate all those pesky unpredictable human drivers from the roads to make them safe for robots. The motivation? The ability to control and track travel. You won't have a personal vehicle and won't be able to access a robotic one without somebody's knowledge and permission. We are heading down the road to totalitarianism.

Self-driving vehicles will never happen until lawyers find a way to sue an empty car.

They can sure sue whoever made the empty car. They've been doing that for years.

I note that modern vehicles seem to come equipped with GPS systems and tracking devices, already. So, if you have a new car, it's already possible for you to be tracked by those inclined to do so. Of course, this is one more reason that I prefer older cars.

The Terminator movies are seeming a lot less far fetched, these days. Robots and computers just taking over.

True. I do not and never have subscribed to OnStar or whatever the equivalent to it is in other than GM vehicles in any of the several I have owned that had it available. But I'm pretty sure that won't keep you from getting hacked. I had a good friend who was a car dealer and wrecked a new car that was not registered and the OnStar was therefore not activated. Nevertheless, OnStar reported the wreck in a remote location in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, my friend had already died in the resulting vehicle fire. So, yes, they can watch you whether you cooperate or not. Surely somebody either has or will shortly develop a little black box that will erase, either on demand or at fixed intervals, any electronic logs of your driving destinations and habits. That person will surely get rich, and I'd be highly likely to become one of his/her customers.

My father has refused to touch anything on his car that has to do with GPS and tracking because he didn't want anyone spying on him, or having control over his car. I told him that he just shouldn't have bought the thing, if he was that concerned about. I told him to miss a couple of payments then try to drive it, if he didn't believe me.

I once had a 1973 Ford Galaxie. It was a great car. No computers, no frills, no tracking devices. Everyone has a car that they regret selling, and that was mine.
