I never knew there was such a variety - I know I ate enough of them as a kid, but never bothered to ask what kind they were. I wish I would have had the interest to ask!

Most of the mountain folks these days grow half-runners. They are still easy to find around here. My daughter, having been "raised right", asked for half-runners after she moved down to Raleigh, NC and they didn't know what she was talking about. Finally some old-timer told her that was a "mountain thing" they didn't have down there. City folks, it seems, want beans with no strings. Never ate a stringless bean that was of much account. The only people who still have the real old-time little greasies grow them themselves and save their own seed from year to year. SWMBO's grandmother did. Wish we had, but we've never gardened much. Want to hear something "quaint"? When we go south for Thanksgiving or Christmas, we bring our own beans.
