I know a lot of fine men who were kept in line, as children, by threat of their Daddys belt.

I also know a lot of wayward, directionless, mixed-up "adults" that never received any sort of physical discipline in their youth.

I'm a firm believer in spankings. It works. The current trend of child worship is far more cruel to the child than a spanking or swatting could ever be.

They are going with the line that "if you hit another adult it would be assault and battery thus spanking is assault and battery". And they were comparing corporal punishment to slavery.....I can't even. They are not even in the same universe.

I don't beat the crap out of my kids. Have they all gotten a tap on the hind end for behavior that was unacceptable (a tap that barely hurt and didn't leave a mark). Yes they have. That is not abuse that is learning not to hit your brother and not to sass your mama.

Lord have mercy. Sure my parents were prob a little too quick with the belt a few times and that was not great. But I sure learned to behave. And they were doing their best. So we forgive mistakes and move on.

I gave up....They could not see reason. So I am here saying....People are nuts. Keep scrolling the best you can.

Truthfully, MBC, there are plenty of adults that could also use a firm fist planted squarely upon their jaw, so that argument doesn't hold up for me, lol.

Personally, I commend parents who discipline their children when and however necessary. My general assumption is that those children probably won't be breaking into my house or stealing my car when they grow up, and will likely grow into fine upstanding citizens.

Indeed, you strike me as a fine upstanding citizen, and you have described your husband as the same. Looks like your parents did something right :)

Never mind the Facebook idiots; they clearly are clueless.

And, btw, welcome back. It's good to see you.

OK, I did not derail this one but, since we are here, I have two children with opposing views on discipline. The one that reinforces the lessons has fewer calls for lessons...the one that does not always appears harried.

Boys of my age group used to compare ass warmings and their causes as a kind of matter of pride.

You know I spank lightly when they are young (2-4) and teach them that "you don't hit mommy" and " you don't talk like that to mommy and daddy" and so far that seems to work. My ten year old almost never has to be corrected for the big D's (disrespect, disobedience, and defiance). My four year old still does. A light tap on the tail end at 3 saves a mountain of trouble later. That is not abuse. That is correction. Now if my 10 year old mouths off.....hahaha.....well lets say two days of chores (and we homeschool.....so that is ALL DAY) cures an attitude real fast.

I was about to post a comment about the mobile version of the forum but then I realized the discussion had morphed into kids and spanking. So I'll just let that run it's course.

Before I try and take it back - the wife and I didn't spank our kids, although I was sorely tempted at times. One is married to an Air Force officer and the other works with special needs kids. What we did worked for us. To each his/her own. If a kid needs a swat, or a little more, have at it.

I agree with Rev. I started my infatuation with guns late in life. Found a forum before this one and got into the trash talking. The mods sidelined me for a week. Thought about it and decided they were right to do so. Now that other board has stricter rules about trash talk.

VGOF is my go-to forum. Here, I get answers not snickers for what might be considered a stupid question elsewhere. You guys are the best! :friends:

I've been on several firearms forums over the years. At times I have found each quite informative and some very entertaining. After a while each seemed to be like it was a"pissing" contest. Many conversations turned hostile and some had language that should not be used on a forum where there's some non-adults participation . I also used Facebook for a while only because that was the only way I could communicate with other members of our Motorhome Club. Now since we do not have a Motorhome now, I do not is FB anymore.

I've never been on Facebook and can't see myself using it now. Maybe I'll start updating my barely used Instagram account instead.

Don't just don't unless you are using it to communicate with family. It is a time drain like no other and you get caught up in meaningless arguments with people who don't know anything about anything and then try to tell you what to do.

Riposte:

I concur that corporal punishment isn't suited for all situations. But that firm grip on the back of the neck, and that "Drill Sergeant" Whisper through clenched jaws, rights the child back onto the path.

The only "swatting" I am against is the fake 911 calls on gunowners.

As to internet arguments? I liken them to winning the Special Olympics. Even if you win? You're still effin' "special".

One thing about this site? The civility gets heated, but you know what it reminds me of, behavior in the late 1800's. We can be loud with each other, but it's never resound to personal attacks.
