Had a college classmate, who worked for a summer at a lawnmower place. Said once the had someone come in to pick up a large order of small Briggs & Stratton engines. When he asked what that was all about, he was told they were for a golf course. They would attach a short length of flexible exhaust pipe, stuff the end down gopher holes, and start them up. Gas the critters out!

The woman nixed the usage of flammables. So I got my "no-see-um net", sprayed an old long sleeve shirt with OFF!, got my red head lamp, and a can of this "foam filler Ground wasp killer"... Walked up to the hole, filled that sucker QUICK!
Filled in a second hole...
We'll see how it works. Put the boy children in charge of watching it tomorrow, and updating on what activity is happening. If it fails?
I have access to gunpowder...and cannon fuse... I came make it "flash", and suck the air right outta that hole...

It was so freakin' uneventful... but the Woman in her wisdom reminded me ."If you hadn't gone, and planned, and put on that gear... those little suckers would have been ALL ON YOU! "
I did it at 21:43... Figured they'd be asleep.
If they're still kicking? Part two... the return of the reverend... and he has cannon fuse.

For moles, gophers, and other underground rodents I suggest this:

OBTW - About the pile of wasp parts under the lawnmower: ever hear of a mulching mower?
I had a mower that went into mulching mode any time the collection bag was removed.
