I'll keep both dates penciled in for the DH 1 class, and definitely hang around after to BS over dinner. Let me know which one we decide on so I can get signed up before it's full.

Okay... maybe we can bump the thread a few times this week just to give a few other folks a chance to chime in and see if there is interest.

I'm flexible on those days as well. However, unless someone tells us this week that that want to come with us, but can only make June 13, I would prefer to sign-up for May 30th and June 27th. This will give me about a month to practice what we learn before we hit the DH2 class.

Come Friday Night, I'll register for both classes either way.

As it stands at the moment, this is what we look like.
Proactive Shooters
Saturday, May 30 for the Defensive Handgun I class

MarcSpaz
Swampman
Saturday, June 27 for the Defensive Handgun II class

MarcSpaz
Swampman
MNMGoneShooting
Mrs. MNMGoneShooting

Hey guys...Thank you for all of the interest in our defensive handgun classes. Just an FYI - We usually limit Defensive Handgun I to 10 students, and Defensive Handgun II to 6 students. We do have some flexibility to add one or two students to DH II, but many of the stages are single shooter exercises, so it takes some time and there is some down time for shooters. We also shoot night fire so that factors into the equation. Keep in mind also that our classes are open to the public, so the dates on our calendar are available to all for registration. If you guys would like to do a VGOF only class, we can try to come up with some additional dates.

Jim, thanks for the very generous offer to attempt to accommodate the club with additional dates. That would be spectacular. My only concern is getting enough people to make it worth your while too. Seeing the maximum recommended number of students above is helpful. Could you also give us an idea of what the minimum amount of students per class would be?

I have a tremendous amount of flexibility... so I can do it almost any time. Some of the other folks have a busy schedule and may not be as flexible as I am. Would it be possible for you to post some dates you will be willing to have a one-off classes for DH I and DH II in May and June?

Thanks again...

One more question - how many spots are open for DH1 on May 30, and DH2 on June 27?

Exactly... if we can fill a class already scheduled, I'm cool with that.

I'd love to take part in this, but I'm going to have to wait until I come off the road permanently. Too much other personal business to attend to, when I get home for a few days.

Hey folks... I spoke to Jim on the phone about an hour ago. I got some info that is very handy.

We are good for the May 30 class and for the June 27 class. However, we need to register now to secure the slot AND we must take DH1 before we can take DH2.

He offered to provide an off-schedule training in the even that the DH1 or DH2 class gets filled up and we can't all train together. As it stands, we look like we're good to go.

Also, Jim really wants to keep the DH2 class to 5 people. That means if we all register now (Mr & Mrs MNMGoneShooting have already), we can add one more person to the June 27 class. This is assuming no one else registers and takes up a slot before we do and you have completed the DH1 class before hand.

That being said, I am going to register for both classes now. We can add one more to June 27 and there are as many as 7 or 8 slots open for May 30.

If we have more people that want to do DH2... we would need to schedule addition training on another day. We can cross that bridge when we get too it.

So... assuming nothing has changed with any participants... this is what I have.
Proactive Shooters
Saturday, May 30 for the Defensive Handgun I class

1.) MarcSpaz
2.) Swampman

Saturday, June 27 for the Defensive Handgun II class

1.) MarcSpaz
2.) Swampman
3.) MNMGoneShooting
4.) Mrs. MNMGoneShooting
BTW... DH2 sound awesome after talking to Jim. Along with some night training... shooting in the dark with headlights and flashlights. We will also be using our own cars to learn to shoot from inside the car (being aware of and protecting passengers) and outside the car using the car as cover. That sounds very exciting!

Unfortunately I'm have to back out of the DH2 class on 27 June. Unavoidable conflict. I have contacted Proactive Shooters to see if another one will become available later in the year. I will be at the DH1 class on 30 May.

Swampman - I received your phone message about the 27th of June for the defensive handgun 2 class. I am going to work on the calendar today to try to add another date in. We will probably be looking around August for the next class as I don't want to schedule another one close to the 27th of June.

Just a quick bump to see if anyone else wants to hop into the May 30 Class?

I went to the range on Saturday with my son. He was watching me do some basic static target practice and shooting his M4. He shot my G17 a few times too. I got a nice ego boost from him too.

I was doing some weak hand unsupported practice. I have to tell you, after only a couple of mags, I was lucky to be on paper at 10 yards. I got shaky real fast. So, I switch over to timer draw and fire. I would draw on a 3 second target presentation at 7 yards, put 3 rounds center mass, reholster and wait for the next presentation.

My son sees me doing this and said "Man, you are shooting some nice groups!" I felt pretty good about that, but they weren't that great, maybe 4.5-6 inches. So, I ask him if he wants to try and he says yes.

Well, he had already been shooing for close to 2 hours. Those m4's are about 8.5 lbs. He was so tired, that at 7 yards, the poor kid didn't hit the paper not even once out of 10 rounds. With a sad sound in his voice he said "I can't. I'm beat". I was going to disarm him anyway for safety reasons, but I am so glad he realized it too.

He hands me the gun back, I put up a fresh target, and run the 3 second presentation drill 6 more times. He see's me hit an okay group center mass at 10 yards. After my slide lock open, as I did my assessment, he is standing over my right shoulder. Scared the heck out of me. I was so used to doing search an assessment with no one their, that I wasn't actually expecting anyone. LOL

Anyway, I'm standing there with the pistol at rest/ready, slide lock open and he said, "You are one deadly shooter." I was flattered that my 16 year old son complimented me at all. I guess after him completely missing that target, he was impressed I was still able to function.

I was thankful for the compliment. I just hope that, after I visit with Jim for training, that my ego is still intact.

For those that haven't taken these courses, DH1 is an excellent yearly/bi-yearly course to keep the skills honed in and avoid poor habits that have creeped in. Jim and his folks know how to spot them quickly and correct. I haven't taken DH2 yet, but Jim advised me that this is a great course for those looking at how to work with their significant other in defensive scenarios. Definitely looking forward to this class. I'm a strong advocate of supporting Jim's business. We have been training with him now going on four (?) years?

Thanks! Really want to get the DH2 class and didn't want to wait until next year. Give me a little more time to practice DH1 stuff.
