I've been thinking along these lines every time I see the title of this thread.

I'm reminded of a conversation I had with my barber (when I had hair) back in Ohio.
I asked him, "Do you practice with your new pistol?"
Him: "Oh, yes. I shoot at my in laws."
I responded, "Really? How much do you lead them?"

BTW - my last wife would have been a pretty good fit in a 21" torpedo tube.

Have you ever thought about 22 magnum? You can put it in the fight as a proper defense caliber....it the firearm you choose has the mag capacity.

Interestingly enough, the pistol with the worst recoil that I have ever experienced was chambered in .22LR.

The shooting comfort of a firearm has just as much to do with it's design, and the materials of which it's made, as it does the caliber in which it's chambered.

If I have my two cents here. I have just gone threw all of this with my wife who is 4'11" and 124 pounds. After going threw guns in .45 ACP, .40, 10mm, 9mm and .380 for weapon comfort, ease of use, recoil controll, ease of carry and maintainece she settled on a Bersa .380. So my advice is have her run threw a bunch of platforms with unbiased infor on each weapon. What you may hate she may love.

I once met a woman in the 4'11" 120# range whose favorite firearm is/was a 45-70 six round revolver that looked like a cannon in her hands.

Actually, it looked like a cannon in anyone's hand.

She said it had the recoil of a kitten.

Different strokes for different folks.
