That's alot of money for a vehicle that you can't drive on public roads. Plus, AM General won't sell parts to civilians?
Ridiculous. Not sure why they care. I guess that they are afraid of the inevitable lawsuit. Can't blame them. I'm sure that at least one idiot has gotten one of these, and plans to do something unfathomably stupid with it.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.
It would not be an insurmountable task to make these roadworthy. In doing so, that may qualify the owner to list himself as the manufacturer on a new title.
If they are hard to get parts for and hard on gas, and require extensive refitting to be usable, wouldn't that be the LAST thing you want for a TEOTWAWKI buggy? Wouldn't you want a Ford or a Chevy you could salvage parts for on any street corner and stretch fuel as far as possible? And for any other use, don't the same arguments also apply?

Not for TEOTWAWKI, but more for personal satisfaction. People have used WW II aircraft engines in personal home manufactured street legal vehicles and fuel economy is far worse than this example. No accounting for tastes.

Yeah, I could see it as a personal tinker-toy if that was what blew somebody's skirt up.

I would like to know how "military grade Humvees" are not road legal...because under the DoT rules any cop could pull over and impound every road going convoy.
"The clever combatant imposes his will on the enemy, but does not allow the enemy’s will to be imposed on him."
~ Sun Tzu
I would not have a HumVee of any kind...They just have never really impressed me . It's just not my type of vehicle. I am currently looking for a "truck" to keep at my property in Dinwiddie....something to use for anything from hauling firewood to brush. Im trying to buy a '66 Chevy C60 ton and a half with a 12' flat bed , dual wheels and a Granny Gear Tranny. Not real pretty , but very solid truck and parts are still very available . The owner is stuck on $6K and I have offered $4,400.00 , but we are still talking. I don't think the truck is going anywhere since he really doesn't have it "For Sale". I do want the truck and am willing to come up a little....For the $$$$$ I think it would be perfect to have around and can probably use it for a few years and get most of the money back at any time. Im thinking Antique Tags and Cheap Insurance and it will be ready to roll !
