"I was practicing something Bill showed me today. Draw from behind the hip, double tap to the chest, and one in the head. The guy in the next lane leaned around with wide eyes and told me he was real glad he's not a bad guy coming for me... "
+1 Zeph...
I have been trying to practice bringing a firearm to bear quickly from a concelled carry position and putting 2 quickly on target...it is not as easy as it looks...and invariably my hand gets some shirt in the way, the holster has a death grip on the barrell and causes my hand to slide into an unnatuaral position that requires a re-adjustment and once i had a FTF as there as no round in the chamber

... it was not easy to get 2 shots cleanly into a target in a slow count of 5 from a full CC carry... i did a few times in 3, but there were others attempts that went woefully ary... and had it been 4th and long with all the marbles in the pot, it may not have been my finest hour... (fun) Practice (fun) Practice (fun) Practice...
And if just 3 out of 10 people could shoot like Zeph...crime rates would drop through the floor, from fear of facing a compentent oppoent and...well, a scaricity of bad guys still standing...
Picture how bold you would have to be if day after day you read on the front page about the person that got gunned down while trying to attempt something stupid to a law abiding citizen...and you were thinking about going out today and doing something stupid to a law abiding citizen...

I never said I could do it fast or accurately.

Am still working. I practice drawing at home. You have to be careful at the range to make sure you get the sequence correct and dont shoot your self in the foot...I carry a .45 cocked and locked so I'm practicing draw, safety off, fire and trying to make sure I dont hit the trigger until I'm pointing at the target. Not easy trying to do that fast - safely - and hit the target. But practice practice.
I can do it relatively fast and not accurate or slow and accurate.

Everything take's time and practice. One has to learn to crawl prior to walking. You should learn to draw from whatever you are carrying your weapon in untill it becomes instint to do so and then learn to get on target with the safety off and shooting 2 to 3 round's.
Always try to carry your weapon in the same holster and in the same position. i.e. strong hip to the rear, shoulder holster etc. Don't switch around as in a fear situation or shooting situation you will go for the weapon where it is as a norm. If it ain't there then you are most likely dead or at leat on your way to the Hospital.
Again the offer is open for anyone that wishes to come to my place and maybe I can help them out in some way. And no I don't charge anything.

Will Young get a chance to get here with you this time.

Thanks, Bill. I appreciate that. I'm trying to convince Young to get a Sunday off in October. Hard for her to do but she's going to try. More importantly, I'm trying to convince her that living in the country is not a bad thing, but that's going to take some work...

Bill,
I would like to take you up on that offer...perhaps on a the same weekend that DK and Young go as well...
and your suggestion "Always try to carry your weapon in the same holster and in the same position. i.e. strong hip to the rear, shoulder holster etc. Don't switch around as in a fear situation or shooting situation you will go for the weapon where it is as a norm."
makes perfect sense as i have been changing it up to see what is more accessible, easier to get to quickly, etc... but i will pick a spot and particular holster and stick to it...good stuff!
Carry On!

What days do you all usually get to SEG?
I try to get there usually the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the week (when the Mrs has her craft/knitting group gettogether). There are usally 2-3 of us knitting-widowers hitting the range then....

I went to SEG this week and it really is a nice place. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. A+ Couple of issues were ammo was over priced and there was no can for duds in the range (but I just gave them to the RSO and that was fine). Otherwise, very comfortable and enjoyable experience!

Did you have a free pass? How did that work out? Was it free to enter the range, then you had to buy your own ammo? Or did you bring your own ammo?

yeah I had one of those passes from the picnic (thank you!). It was super easy. I just presented it at the front desk at the entrance and they had me sign a waiver and then I went right in. The RSO has to let you into the actual range with a key card. But the outer area is open to walk around in and it is huge (it has the store and lounge). I brought my own ammo with me. I didn't have to buy theirs.

I used Silver Eagle Group for an FFL transfer recently and was very impressed. The cost was $35.00. I might have found a cheaper place but not better; it was the fastest I've ever gone through an FFL transfer. All the staff I met there were friendly, attentive. As soon as deer season is over I'll be back to SEG to check out the range.

MDUKES - Would you post the holiday range hours? I am assuming you will be closed on Thanksgiving day. Will there be any changes in hours for the days before/after? Thanks!!

This is not particularly a "family forum" as you insinuate but a forum for adults to discuss guns and related issues. If you need a definition of double tap please PM me.
