CCW which pistol...
Re: CCW which pistol...
it doesn't matter what weapon you have, if you can't hit the target , you won't have it long.

O I can hit a target, my dad was a gun fanatic...
Re: CCW which pistol...
Like some of the other folks have said - try out a bunch and see which fit you best. I actually carry a G26 w/ mag extender ,but can use short mags if I need every bit of concealment... Also carry a Ruger LCP if I'm going to be active and need a really light carry firearm... Let us know what you decide!

Have you given a thought to the AMT DAO .45 backup? It's stainless, has no safety at all (Unless you count the insanely heavy trigger pull), no sights (A groove down the top of the frame), a heel switch mag release, and kicks like a mule. I know these sound like bad things, but it's like having a pet warthog: you love it for it's faults. Oh, and maybe the Walther PPS? They come in 9mm and .40, they are also WAY thin, unlike the best handgun in the world, of which I sold mine after firing it a couple of times.
Re: CCW which pistol...
The PPS in .40 has my vote. It's my CC weapon of choice 99% of the time.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Para PDA in .45acp?

I carry a barely legal mossberg 500a, with a shoulder "C' hook, and a black trenchcoat....

Step 1 - Buy a Glock model 23, .40 caliber
Step 2 - That's it, you're done. Congratulations for buying the best handgun in the world.
AHAHAHA!!!! true that!

No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: CCW which pistol...
I never had one, but from here it looks like it might have a balance problem...

Well, I guess its where you are going and what you are doing. I carry the Ruger LCP all the time on an ankle holster. The Judge is in the Truck and sometimes I carry either the XD.40 or the Glock 30 sub-compact .45. It really depends on what I am wearing and what is my reasoning for me to carry. It really comes down to firepower and what fits on you best. Some people can't use inside belt holsters due to their "waist" and others like shoulder holsters. What ever you cup of tea is I guess.
Good Luck.

Most of the compact .45s point and handle quite nicely. A very natural feel in the hand without the extra weight at the end.GS78 wrote:I never had one, but from here it looks like it might have a balance problem...

Re: CCW which pistol...
Don't discount Taurus. They have a thumb safety that do not take any time during the draw... Small, lightweight, fairly accurate, second strike trigger (which i love), and a chamber indicator. They are great for the price. Easy to conceal.
But as has been said, you should go with what feels the best in YOUR hands.. everyone's different.

Re: CCW which pistol...
im still a relatively new shooter and I too am still looking to get my first carry gun, like you I too was considering the sub compact line of guns. However, after shooting a few I've found that I don't enjoy the sight picture on them. I've found for myself, and this is just for me but it may work for you too, that the sight picture on a 4" barrel helps me get more rounds on target. I'm assuming you've put rounds through what you're looking to buy, if not DO THAT.
as for what I would suggest:
g19
xd or xdM in 4" (service i think they call it)
1911
226 (if you're comfortable with the da/sa set up)
228 (if you're comfortable with the da/sa set up)

I like my XD40SC carried in a IWB custom K & D holster. I did have to go up a size on my Carhartts to make room for the holster. Very comfortable and concealable. The Glocks are nice, but just didn't fit my hand like the XD's.

For you people with a problem with sighting on a smaller handgun don't discount the weapon untill you try one with a Crimson Trace Sighting System on it if possible.

+1 for the S & W compact M & P in .40, and look at Crossbreed holsters for IWB carry. I ride and carry and as others have said it raises a few problems, how to maintain control of the weapon if I go down and have to be transported to a hospital is just one that crosses my mind from time to time.

Re: CCW which pistol...
Ok guys sorry ive been gone so long
Im leaning toward the Glock 9mm maybe .45 not sure yet
or the
1911 (I love the 1911 but its quite expensive)
Still havnt ruled out the xd
Shot the glock 9mm and the 1911
1911 = smooth but a little big for CCW for me

Re: CCW which pistol...
I see you've still got the XD on your list.
I'm just gonna add another +1 for it.
IMO, it feels and shoots much better.
That doesn't mean it will for you, but it's a great gun nonetheless.
