George,

It is Ubuntu. I still have a Fedora Core 2 desktop machine that's got all my LAMP stuff up and running to play with (haven't done anything to that machine in 6 or 7 years) but my main machine is a laptop running Ubuntu 8.04. I needed something stable to browse all the ammo sites and keep my inventory up...

Barrett brought those 98 Bravos out to a shoot I was at. Seen one in a gun shop before. They are very cool and I wouldn't mind having one, but there are a lot of other .338LMs I would rather have over that one. It was nice, but I think it's over hyped. Don't think I'm bashing Barrett, I like their products. After all, I have one of their fifty cals.

Up at the top for .338LM is the AI AWM and the DTA SRS. After that I would prefer a nice custom 700 like action (like a surgeon, GAP, etc.) or a EDM Arms Windrunner M98. Then perhaps a Sako TRG42 or a 98 Bravo. Here is why:

1. It doesn't have the impressive track record of maintaining sub 1/2MOA in extreme conditions like an AI.
2. It doesn't have the ultra short coolness and amazing quick caliber change of the DTA SRS.
3. The overall presentation and finish isn't close to a custom gun.
4. It isn't uber evil looking and take down like the Windrunner.
5. Tied with the Sako IMHO.

I'm sure they will sell a ton of these to LE and of course because of their name (especially since they won that NRA award for it). They appear to be very well made and just like the Sako are excellent guns, but their isn't anything about them that is super exciting. Most of the "special" features are neat, but not deal makers. Kinda like how Glock is always talking about their ultra safe design; safety built into the trigger, safety built into the striker, safety built into the coating! Nice, but nothing that makes it (Glock or the 98B) really unique from the other offerings. I have several Glocks too, so I'm not bashing them either. I like them a lot. Just my 2 cents.

Now if anyone was to give me one I'd take it in a heartbeat. It is a good gun.

A buddy of mine at work has the Barrett 98Bravo. Nice rifle. He has the Rec 7 too. He hasn't shot them yet though. He has so many guns, but never shoots them. He is always all talk no action. After hearing that I joined a gun club, now he is joining. He is one of the types that if you have something, then he will buy something better. I bought a Jetski a couple of years ago, 1 week later he bought one that went faster. Nice guy and will help you out any time, but he tries to impress with his wallet.

He is the one that gave me the red dot and bi-pod.

Let him know I shoot long range precision rifles and wouldn't mind sighting in his 98B. In fact, I can get actual drop data every 50 yards out to 1400 yards in October if he wants. Just supply the rifle/optics and the ammo. I understand he is busy, but he shouldn't have rifles in the safe which aren't ready to be used if the SHTF. :friends:

Edit: It is for his own good, I'm just trying to help out...won't enjoy it a bit.

Him busy??? LMAO! I know you don't know him, but his busy life consists of sitting at Chili's drinking, sitting at The Pub drinking, and then going home and doing more drinking. Don't get me wrong, I love a good beer, but not everyday all night long.

Like I said before, he is a good, nice guy, and he has A LOT of nice friggin guns, but his priorities are all messed up.

I am sure once he see me going to the gun club and shooting all the time, he will start going too, he has to outshine me at work............... so he will go, it is just a matter of time, lol.

My desktop is one of my boy with his favorite hand tool ( Red Ryder ) to dispatch enemy plastic cups...

He had good intel that this cup was on the move, and had a group with him and were obviously up to no good..but have no fear America, THREAT eliminated...!! :first:

@ DK - I even have the miniture version of the leg lamp on my desk at home, certainly a "substantial reward!" :hysterical:

@ Bill - It is funny the things that -really- matter this far along...and i must say, busting up shatterblast targets in the backyard with my boy and his red ryder..., it just donesn't get much better. makes me wealthy beyond compare!!

best part of that entire movie was when he gets his tounge stuck to the frozen lamp post and is late for class...
