All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

This is not a generally true statement. Several bases I go to have MPs in addition to civilian security.dusterdude wrote:Can someone who knows, tell me when and why base security is not by mp's anymore but civilian police?
But what's wrong with civilian police? How would this have affected the Fort Hood incident?

Just a couple of observations about things being said on FoxNews.
(I assume similar statements are being made in other news media.)
"This shooter bought his gun at the SAME store where the first Fort Hood shooter got his."
Question: How many civilian FFL stores are there near the base?
"This shooter was able to buy a gun even though he was being treated for depression."
Many perfectly stable people suffer from depression. He was SELF DIAGNOSED with PTSD but this had not yet been confirmed by Army doctors. Also, should PTSD, as such, be a definite bar to own a firearm?

No. PTSD should not bar firearm ownership. Nor should depression.

LOL (with SHMIV) I read an article recently that said folks suffering from depression actually have a realistic assessment of life, and everybody else is just overly optimistic.
Now is the time for all good men to get off their rusty dustys...

I get accused of being a pessimist. I tell people that optimists, because they expect everything to go well even though everything seldom does, lead a life of constant disappointment; but pessimists are seldom disappointed and occasionally pleasantly surprised. Pessimists are therefore generally happier people than optimists.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Re: More workplace violence at Fort Hood, Texas
I did a little research.
This site: http://www.armsdealer.net/businesses/ca ... mit=Search
Indicates 16 gun businesses within 25 miles of Fort Hood.
Guns Galore LLC, the store where they bought their guns, being the closest at 3.7 miles.
I forgot that this was Texas. A massaging of the BATFE March, 2014 Excel worksheet of TX ffls show 80 retail FFLs in the 3 digit zip code 765xx.

A pessimist is a better informed optimist.

An optimist is a self-medicated pessimist.
