I have a friend at work who just received his in the mail...took 44 days.

how early can we send it in for renewal? The instructions for Fairfax County say at least 45 days but not how many before. I was going to send it in 2 months before it's expired.

The law says 180 to 90 days prior.

Yeah, I saw that on the VA state site, but there are also some areas where Fairfax County conflicts with VA State as well.

The Fairfax Clerk's Office may ask you for things not covered in the law such as extra copies and a self-addressed, stamped envelope, but I have found that they will follow state law with respect to CHPs so long as you do.

I've renewed my CHP in Fairfax twice and never had an issue..I've always done it early, but they recommend to put you app in 90 days ahead of time....

Tagged for updating once I receive mine (initial) in the mail, sent in on 09/30 but it's only been 20 days so it's still early.

Err cant figure out how to edit my previous post, but I received my permit today in the mail. So, 23 days... not bad.
