Funny you brought this up, MamabearCali, I was just ruminating on the fact that the real failure of our public education system isn't poor reading, writing, or 'rythmetic, it's the complete failure to do what what it was chartered to do: make our children competent voters and citizens, versed in the issues, and the ability to make up their own minds on the issues.

Instead we crap about 37th in math, or 20th in science, etc. these are not really a problem. Theres plenty of self starters who are there for every need of higher science and math.

The problem is society has been told history is useless, dont talk politics, its bad to argue, etc. so we have a school system that is anothetical to its sole and primary purpose: civics.

I feel lucky, it was my experience to have quite good civic in school, but I see so many today, and even some my age, that know nothing about the constitution. In law school I met some that hadnt even read the constitution prior to comstitutional law.

I know many are against the public school system, but I think if we could find the right way, and transform it back, a lot could change.

Yeah. I know, a lot of you will poo poo this idea, but at least I bring ideas to the table.

Mama, just remember not to worry as much about math as about politics when teaching the kids!

The true answer is human nature leading these people down one of two paths.

The first path... I would assume that some active politicians believe in Utopia, true communism (less the evolution of a dictator). The problem is John Lennon's song "Imagine" was just daydreaming in the form of entertainment. Utopian living completely contradicts human nature and man's need for recognition, influence, material belongings and spirituality to explain the unknown.

Even if they know it failed over and over, these people will take the approach of "it failed because it wasn't ME who tried it." Human nature makes them believe that they can somehow force Utopia to become a reality because they are better and smarter than everyone else who exists or has come before them. Even if they don't outwardly project this attitude, the very fact that they are trying to implement socialism/communism means it's true and, ironically, contradicting the very ideology they are trying to implement. An idea or method that by its own nature contradicts itself can never survive.

Think of Albert Einstein. He blueprinted a method of converting mass into energy. If energy itself didn't have mass, the theory would be false and any effort to use the theory would fail.

Then there are people who go down the second path. They don't believe in peace, Utopia or communism. What they do believe is that things such as government, brotherhood, faith and religion were originally created by man to establish a civilized society and are truly only control methods to be exploited. As long as they are the one in control and performing the exploiting, they could care less if society burns down after they are gone. As long as they have all the power, wealth and control for the time that they exist... its a win to them.

Then there are conservatives. I believe we know these aforementioned people exist, are crazy, dangerous, and we really just want to be left alone to live peaceful and uneventful (but fruitful) lives. The Socialist won't allow us to do so because the sheep of their herd will see they are being exploited. Therefor Libs force their ideology on us, causing us to get involved as a method of self preservation.
