I've had some problems with the same things. If preemption exists, it should just exist. However, at least for me, I stay the heck of these areas.
We do need to change things for the better, but it does not mean we aren't in one of the better states for firearms.

Anything I need to know about Fairfax and Arlington Counties? That's where I'll be spending most of my time.

But, AFAIK, on your own property, you can do either... or both.

Correct.
Wasn't that changed a couple years ago when the started allowing CC in bars?

old rule - no CC in a place that serves alcohol. OC was ok.
new rule - CC allowed __IF__ you are not drinking. OC is still ok, even if you are drinking. We can debate in another thread if that's a good/bad idea

You have many choices (aka freedoms) available to you.
If you choose to drink, then your freedom to use deadly force is reduced. Just remember your actions will be judged in hindsight, with unlimited time to evaluate a decision, and with all facts known.

Can you show me, without using anecdotal sources, that my freedom to use deadly force is reduced while drinking. Thank you.

I can't. But then again, no one has ever referred to me as "Your Honor".
You'll have to save that question for the man in the black robe. Better yet, ask a lawyer with experience in self defense cases.
