I've OCed a few times in Charlottesville without issue so far, just a few extended stares. I'm still weeks out on my CCW. In Gordonsville no one has stared and it's just outside of Charlottesville.

Re: Moving to VA--where is it going in terms of gun laws?
Thanks everyone for all of the helpful information and warm welcome.
I'm a part time tech investor/entrepreneur + land developer basically still trying to figure out what I'm going to be when I grow up. This career means I work out of the home 90% of the time + travel, so living somewhere west of Dulles is probably the target area.
I'm personally only concerned about the state politics, not local nor the political views of my immediate neighbors. I rather enjoy living amongst a bunch of brain washed liberals, the looks on their faces when they see me unload my car full of 20 so called "assault weapons" is priceless. As long as the state protects my rights, I'm good with that. But of course I probably will need the CLEO to be gun friendly if our lovely President gets his way (which he will) and the NFA process changes effectively making Trusts/LLCs a thing of the past.
With regards to the CLEO thing, hopefully we Virginians can get together and put in a state law like they are working on in Texas that will force the CLEOs to sign the ATF forms unless there is a truly valid reason not to, rather than letting their politics drive who can own NFA items and who cannot. Obviously a little early still since the new ATF regs aren't yet in place.
Looking forward to possibly meeting some of you, some day.

mike if you havent investigated vitamin d3 yet,you should do so,ive been hearing some good things about itUnderwaterMike wrote:Perhaps I missed it, but did you say what you do for a living?
I moved to Fairfax County from NC in 1996 and have watched it become steadily more liberal since then. I'd love to get out but, unfortunately, for my occupation most of the jobs are in DC and surrounding burbs. As some of these guys have mentioned, moving downstate and/or to more rural areas will get you where you want to be politically, but for employment reasons that's not always possible.
One other thing: I volunteered for local, statewide and national candidates almost every election since I got here. In fact, I'm going back out to knock doors this weekend, despite back problems for which I may need surgery. Wherever you decide to move, if you don't get involved in helping the "good guys" win, it's the same as asking the bad guys to take over. The population growth is predominantly in liberal-dominated areas, so getting pro-gun voters to turn out and contribute is imperative no matter where you're at.

Land developer? I work with those guys on a regular basis. Most would call me the bearer of bad tidings. I am a wetlands biologist, and have been for 23+ years. I can tell you where the wetlands are on your land and how bad the government is going to screw you over it. Check my website out (www.passagecreekenv.com) when you get here and give me a buzz if you have questions. I can also put you in touch with warm bodies at the developers offices as I know most of them. Might save you some cold calling.

Thanks but I will never do land development again. Long story how I got dragged into it but this was a one time gig in Utah (not where I live full time). At least there, that industry is full of scum bags. I personally like to deal with straight shooters, not people that are trying to back stab and hose me at every turn. Plus, all land development really is, at least at the larger levels and as the top dog, is dealing with politicians day in/day out. Shoot me now. In fact, I have a call in 7 minutes with the mayor of the city in Utah where my project is. I gotta kiss his ass and donate to his campaign if I want to get anything done in that city. Sad. Makes me sick with myself. Never again.
Maybe I'll buy a 1000 acres in VA and open up a 1000 yd shooting range. Just gotta get my wife on board.

Don't think it's that bad here, but I don't get that deep into it. Probably because I don't want to find out. I know where there is 1500 acres in Chesterfield County that will likely be for sale soon. It's in the rural, west-central part of the county, but has easy access to Rt. 288 and I-95. But that's too far for me to go. Better open up that range up here somewhere near Winchester. Forget about Warren County. The Commissioners won't let it happen here. Not sure why. There is a range in West VA just north of Berryville on Rt. 340 that I haven't tried yet. I think the northern Shenandoah Valley needs a range!

Get a Trader Joe's to come to Roanoke and you'll be mayor for life.
It's sort of a warped #1 priority here, but there it is.
