Go with the Savage, I own 4 weatherby rifles and shotguns, but will not buy another, their warranty is not worth the paper it is written on.

If I may, why is your wife not happy? What is it that bothers her? Buying another .308Win may not resolve the issue. For the deer in this area and the limited ranges, you certainly don't need a .308Win to take a deer. A quality bullet in a moderate cartridge will kill a deer better than a poor bullet is a magnum.

I hunt with a .45/70 Marlin 1895 lever gun, but I'm also putting together a lightweight 300Blackout (AR15, lightweight 16" barrel, no iron sights, suppressor waiting the BATFE, 10rnd Magpul mag...probably an Aimpoint T1 like the 1895, but not sure yet). With a 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, it will take a deer easily and cleanly, have much less recoil, and be hearing safe.

Before committing to another .308Win, I'd really try and figure out what is wrong. Think of the hunting system, which includes the shooter, rather than just the firearm system.

gunderwood, it's the concern that the FR8 is not safe to shoot. She's not unhappy, she just wants me around. :) I assured her the FR8 is fine with hunting rounds, but she insists I buy a new rifle. I just figure if she wants me to buy a new rifle....

I've debated on caliber and platform for a while. I have a .357 magnum lever action that would be fine in the WMAs, but we are going out to a very large private plot of land this year. The pistol carbine won't be adequate.

I debated on a blackout as well. The round really intrigues me. When you get it done, I'd love to see it in action.

I also debated on the .270 Win. Flat, nice energy.

Lots if internal debates, but I'll need to Mae a decision soon.

Ah, in that case the .308Win Savage would be a great choice. Accutriggers are the best of the low cost triggers IMHO.

I have a Savage 111 in .270 Win. Very nice rifle, and for me it really is all I need. But I have to admit, a .308 would be fun to have, at least for a little while.
